    Default Sig 226 vs 229

Anyone have both of these models and have an opinion on them?

    I am looking at a 229 with a 357 sig and 40 s&W barrels.

I carry a 1911 often enough, so the size is not an issue.

The 226 is very good. If you are looking at the 229 for cartridge interchangability, and you have two barrels, then why not go with the 229? I have a 226 and a 229. Both shoot great, and are fine weapons. The 229 is on a slightly smaller scale than the 226. The 229 has a beefed up slide. If you are looking for an answer I would just ask myself if you want 2 guns in one, or 1 gun that is damn good. Either way, you cannot go wrong.

Scud, do you fins the 229 lacking in any way compared to the 226? I have fondled both, and they certainly do not suck.

I have both a 226 and a 229. Age old question . . . what are you going to use it for?

My 229 was one I bought in .40SW with the .357 SIG barrel, too. I also bought a Barsto 9mm match barrel for it. I frequently carry it and love it.

With that said, little longer sight radius with the 226 (in 9mm) and I shoot slightly better with it. It's a great range gun and IDPA shooter. From time to time, I will CC it, too.

Both of these pistols I love and will not part with. Without a doubt, my recommendation is to get both.

    Not beyond getting both eventually.

I have a lot of guns, but realized I did not have much in high capacity. I like metal framed ones so Glocks and the like are pretty much out.

Can you swap out barrels in the 226 like the 229?

I plan on shooting it a lot, like my others. I do not like safe queens.

I've heard of people dropping conversion barrels into their .40 226s.

i see no real reason to go with the 229; unless you want a smaller weapon or like the way it looks or feels better.

I've owned both. The 229 stayed.

I'm not a big fan of .40 S&W, not at all, and have found shooting it in both platforms to be less than enjoyable. .357 SIG in the 229 makes it so that I reindex the target quite naturally. Also, while the 229 is on the big side for CC, the 226 is just about on the edge of fuggedaboutit.

As was suggested, if you need or want the ability to go to three calibers in a pinch, grab a Bar-sto conversion 9mm for whatever you decide on. Don't forget the extra magazines.

How much does it costs to buy those conversion kits for p229 (especially 9mm)?

Jatt, google Barsto conversion barrel and you'll trip over yourself. They are very reasonable and shoot well.
