Re: denied license to carry a firearm
...and nothing else of a criminal nature on your record since 1959?
Hey, we all do stupid shit when we're 18 (which is why the minimum age for alcohol and handgun ownership is 21 - your brain needs a few more years of development to fully build the part that deals with actions/consequences).
DUI in 1959, true. Nothing criminal since then; give the guy a LTCF.
BUT, if you get an anti-gun sheriff (the guns for me, not for thee type or the "guns are for hunting" type), the decision has moved from one based in fact to one that is based in opinion. To me, this is a problem with the system. I think the character clause needs to be removed. If not removed, the decision needs to be based on more than the opinion of a single person (unless it already is, than in that case, the system is still broken).Soap Box - Worn out : Ballot Box - Broken : Jury Box - Pending : Ammunition Box - Unknown

Re: denied license to carry a firearm
The character clause is vague and arbitrary, therefore an illegal law.

Re: denied license to carry a firearm
Why then can you, at 17, enlist in the military and go get maimed or killed? Answer, the alcohol and handgun thing isn't about your brain needing to develop, it's about control. Oh, and you don't have to be 21 to own a handgun, just to purchase one through an FFL. In states that don't infringe on the rights of their citizens as much as PA does, it's easy for 18-20 year olds to buy second hand handguns FTF....

Re: denied license to carry a firearm
All the Federal prohibitors are under 922(g). Relevant to this discussion is 922(g)(1), which prohibits anyone convicted of any crime punishable by more than 1 year, unless it's a misdemeanor, in which case it has to be over 2 years.
Drunk driving in the late 1950's was a misdemeanor punishable by not more than 3 years. Anyone with such a conviction still on his record is Federally prohibited. Most of those folks are over age 70 now (or dead), so they have expungement options if they've behaved themselves recently.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com
