Gunsmith that can thread ak barrel in SE PA???
Hey all,
well im looking to put a Ar flash hider on my Ak barrel. My ak does not have any threading on it and it was never chopped down. im looking to place the threading of a AR on it, so that i can screw on a flash hider (which just look uber-cool . I live in SE PA and i can drive out to the shop to drop it off within a reasonable distance. Any gunsmith up for the challenge and how much for the work?

You mean one like this?
I think John at JCDLE can do it but he's in SW PA if I recall..."The world is a dangerous place to live, not because of the people who are evil but, because of the people who do nothing about them."

Drak:
This should be interesting. Some AKs had the threaded section turned down, while others had a dummy section welded over the threaded portion. The original setup was 14mm threads, 1.0mm pitch left hand turn. What is the diameter of the barrel just forward of the front sight, in inches? What type of AK do you own?
If it's an original AR-15 flash hider, I think it's 1/2x28 TPI. The job calls for a large die holder and this. Note that it's split, so you can make minute changes in the root & crest diameter for tighter or looser fit. Since the bore axis alignment's critical, you'll want the tightest threads that you can comfortably turn.

Exactly like that. Your picture in another thread actually gave me the idea to do it. It adds that final piece that just makes it look custom. I have checked out some of Johns work and it's excellent in his other threads. He also knows what he talking about. However i checked on the map and it a major major drive out to his shop from were i live. I am going to give him a call, soon though to see what can possibly be worked out.

Did you check at Arfcom. There was a guy renting threading kits, one was 1x14 and the other was 1/2x28. I think it was in the AK Parts section.

Hey Drak,
I stumbled onto this site due to my re-occuring Garanditis and they may be able to help you. They are also in Quakertown, PA and a phone call to them can't hurt.

many post AWB sunset AK's still have the threaded muzzle, As does mine, I picked up a bird cage brake make specifically for the AK for less than $10. while it isn't a flash supressor, it does much better than the stock slant brake at taming recoil.
