Re: AK Scope?
The Primary Arms 1-6 scope is a good option.

Re: AK Scope?
I was also thinking maybe of using a red dot and a magnifier.

Re: AK Scope?
You need a lot of rail space for a red dot and magnifier setup. Though the RS full length rail would probably be enough. Then they usually weigh almost as much or more than a scope.(depending which RD, mag and mounts you use) Might as well just run a 1-6 or fixed 3-4 power scope.

Re: AK Scope?
I'm not sure I really like to keep a red dot on my AK all the time, but I like having the option. I bought a traditional sidemounted scope mount for mine, and I ended up getting this actual Russian red dot from a guy in Russia. The brand is Pilad, made in Russia, has a 1x magnification so I can keep both eyes open. I can also co-witness my front sight when peeping through. I would not buy a red dot for this rifle that did not have that ability. Even without the scope turned on, it adds to the accuracy. I have not sighted the cross hairs perfectly yet, but it appears to be very accurate. Last time at the range I found several holes in my target which were two in one when I was using the Pilad at 50 yards. At first I thought it was keyholing, but a closer look revealed several holes almost perfectly superimposed. I have a feeling when I get it sighted properly, my AK is going to be scary accurate for a 7.62x39 rifle.
I converted this rifle to AK format from a Saiga. I don't really like the handguard and recently bought the retainer bracket from Carolina Shooters Supply to finally finish the job.
Edit: Oh, DUH! Youre still wondering how much I paid for it! It think it was around $125. The Russian guy was very helpful, courteous and spoke adequate English for us to be able to do business. He also let me use PayPal. Originally it was to be an eBay transaction, but I discovered it was not the right rail-size. He directed me to his website and I chose from there. It all ended up being somewhat informal.

Re: AK Scope?
AK operators union just released this video earlier today going over the 3 combos they sell hitting on their advantages and disadvantages. after watching it my choices would be the x3 fixed or the Holosun with the ACSS and a x3 magnifyer down the line.
Hope it helps.

Re: AK Scope?
No help here, just want to offer my WASR 10/63 has the side mount. I've wasted some money trying to use that mount system. The base plate got warped when it was riveted to the side of the receiver. The warp won't let any clamp-on work. The rail-on-dust cover may have a little wiggle. If you do buy one, get the one with the screws in the rear. They remove most of the shake.
I feel the rail on cover is good enough for combat accuracy to 50 yards. The question would be how long it would remain useable in a SHTF situation. But then, losing the scope and reverting to open sights would always be available.
For 50 yards or less, I would just go with a red dot.
