Gun goofs on TV
Saw three goofs in two shows of Homicide Hunter (Lt Kenda). One show was an "explanation" that .380 and 9mm are interchangeable. Another was ( I would love to know how they did this) a guy shooting an AK (biker bar incident), with the selector and bolt handle on the left side, and finally, at the end...camera segs away from a semi-auto pistol as the narrator calls it a .380 revolver. Juxtaposed against old blue eyes who warns he is perfect at getting killers, it enters the realm of humorous.

Re: Gun goofs on TV
Gun goofs have been on TV and movies since motion pictures were invented.

So that's why my .380 isn't working.
Let's not forget there are still species of tropical penguins living in the Galapagos.

I nominate the prop master on the set of The Crow for Best Gun Goof award.

Re: Gun goofs on TV
Tv and movies have people so screwed up and misinformed when it comes to guns.
A story showed up of a woman at a range turning the gun on herself and shooting herself in the chest/upper abdomen. The range officer that was inches behind her collapsed and crawled on the floor and she calmly strolled to a chair and sat down.
Many of the comments spoke of it being fake, why'd the guy react like he did, how could she walk and she would have died instantly.
A gun blog reported on it with the author saying much the same and a friend I shared it with was dumbfounded that she didn't collapse where she stood. Everyone it seems has this idea that their handgun is going to drop an attacker with one shot anywhere on the body and death will be counted in seconds.

You nailed it! This is by far number one. We all know Josey Wales can instantly kill 6 people with 6 shots (in 3 seconds) with a cap and ball revolver. They fall down dead and don't even twitch.
But in reality something like 80% of all people shot with a handgun survive. And that includes waiting for an ambulance or driving yourself to the hospital.

I hope it wasn't Kenda himself who made that 380/9mm explanation....

I recall Dwyer's heart continuing to pump until exsanguination was complete...far longer than a few seconds. That'll happen when the brain stem is left functioning.
