Where can I buy Chickens in Phila area

I am in the market for some egg laying chickens, I would like to buy them withen 1 hour of Phila area, I dont want to buy them from some market in China town,
There has to be somewhere local, Mabey NJ or bucks/berks/montgomery county!

Can't help you with Philly but my Dad had 2 chickens for a while. He just wanted fresh eggs. He ended up with two roosters.

Folks my way have lots of chickens for egg layers. My kids "chicken sit" (say that 5 times fast) when the neighbors go on vacation and get paid in eggs <sniff, pleasant memories of the good old days on the farm>. Two eggs a day from each hen. We also have a lot of fat, happy foxes in the neighborhood and get to see some magnificent red tail hawks display their awesome preditory skills, so make sure you have a secure facility before getting the chickens.

My neighbors all get theirs from a place called Pickering Valley Feed and Farm ( http://pickeringvalleystore.com/ ), which is where I buy all my pet supplies too. It's a family run place, employees know their stuff, prices in line with the big box pet stores, and someone will load the 1 ton bags of horse feed or 20 bails of straw for you. They only get their stock from local farmers who have established a reputation for healthy animals because repeat business and referrals from happy customers keeps them going, so you never know what they're going to have on any given day.

About and hour out of Philly in Lionville. A mile South off the Downingtown PA Turnpike exit.
