    Default Brass Shining Made Easy!

    Hello,

I was playing with different methods of shining brass.

Wet tumbling, I used 2 cups water and added one tablespoon lime juice.

    This is the result:

    I hope this helps someone!

    Regards,

    Josh

Add some car wash n wax. It will help keep the brass from tarnishing.

I put a few thousand 9mm cases in my cement mixer with 10 lb of stainless pins, a drop or two of dawn, and about two big tablespoons of lemonshine. Let it run for 10 minutes. Run it twice again with just water to rinse. Brass looks awesome.

Lemi Shine and lime juice are both a citric acid. Does the same thing. You can also substitute pure citric acid from the wine making store if you cant get ahold of Lemi Shine at Wally World.

Something to look into. I have read warnings not to use white vinegar. Vinegar is 5% acetic acid. Brass is an alloy containing zinc. Acetic acid will dissolve zinc. So, although the brass comes out nice and bright, it is weakened.

Since the post is dealing with acids, the same may be a consideration.

Actually any acid in high enough concentration will attack the zinc. Lets put it this way. If you see pink spots on your brass its junk. The zinc has been pilfered out.

I've ruined alot of brass by having to much lemishine or leaving it in solution too long.

I have no problem with dry tumbling using walnut or corn cob media and a capful of NuFinish car wax in a standard vibratory tumbler.

I don't need it to be shiny. I just need it to be clean. I'm only gonna get it dirty again in short order...
