Never Shot a 45ACP
Laugh it up! Anyway, there are two safetys. The grip safety and the what I will call standard safety. For the grip safety, get a good grip and have web of hand at top of backstrap (have a good standard grip, I know the drill). Semantics aside, basically I need to have a grip so that the safety is "squeezed" by my hand. Safety on slide just flip and then I shoot.
Again, I simplify here, but is that the process? Yes I will be safe, just want to make sure before I go to the range and look like a tool.Gunowner99 - NRA Benefactor Life Member

Yes, holding the gun with a normal shooting hand position will deactivate the grip safety. Nothing special is required.

Re: Never Shot a 45ACP
45 acp is a pleasant round to shoot out of a full size gun. A heavy push straight rearward, not a sharp slap or a jumpy muzzle. Fair warning, shoot it, you'll want one.
Go sell crazy some where else, we're all stocked up here.

Re: Never Shot a 45ACP
Sounds pretty good so far. BUT from semi-auto or revolver .45 ACP is actually pleasant (though not mild) to shoot given the correct firearm "stocks" and grip.

Re: Never Shot a 45ACP
ASSuming you are talking 1911.............
There's a third safety. When the slide is back even just a little, a trigger pull won't fire it.
I was told the standard USGI holster holds the slide back just a skosh, rendering the deadly awful dangerous gun ...inert.
The safety works.

Did you buy a 1911? If so, I recommend getting a 1911 bushing wrench.
