    Love that wood grain job.

Now I can fold down those back up sights!

    UPDATE:

While at the group shoot last week, this sight began shutting off after almost every round fired.

I've moved it to my 9mm carbine. Will have to see if the 9mm recoil makes a difference.
If not, I can put it on the 22.

Sucks because I love this style of sight vs a small, round micro red dot, but there's no way I'm paying the big bucks for a good one.

That sight worked fine on the 9mm carbine.
I moved my Primary Arms 30mm red dot to this gun.

I'm getting closer to painting this carbine.
I've been researching camo patterns, colors, and methods.

I keep getting drawn to the Rhodesian FAL camo - I don't want to use the same colors because I think they may be out of place "here", but the style, and possibly the method used to paint it are high on my list.

I don't want to do run of the mill rattle can with "netting" or "leaves" as stencils. Most camo I see is completely ineffective as camouflage, and more of a "fashion statement". Rhodesian camo is more along the lines of what I want - something that breaks up the outline of the rifle.

Regardless of how much I would like to do something like a Russian camo, I do not have the patience to dick around using stencils to make a camo pattern, so there's another thing that brings me back to the Rhodesian FAL style - easy, brush it on, blocky, effective... did I say easy?

For those who don't know what a Rhodesian FAL camo job looks like...

You go with Rhodesian camo, you must wear short shorts to go with it.

Sonofabitch. I've had the three Aervoe camo paint colors I want in my cart at Brownell's for about two months.
I just haven't committed to completing the sale because... "money".
I finally decide to place my order and one of the colors is on backorder! UGH!

    Earth Yellow (on backorder)

I've had good results with rustoleum over the years. Especially if you're doing a camo job; will a little wear (maybe) sooner than you'd have it with much more expensive coatings really matter?

Gotta wait until spring to paint, but not long after I last posted about the paint being out of stock, it became available again, so I got it while I could.

In the mean time, I tested out an inexpensive light today at the 17 degree, snow-covered group shoot.

I happened across some Energizer flashlights on clearance dirt cheap at Walmart. Remembering that I had a few spare light mounts, I threw one of the lights on this gun, and it fits OK. I really had my doubts that this light could withstand the recoil of a rifle, but it survived the initial test.
I'll replace it with something proper when I'm able, but at least I now know that it won't stop working after a few rounds.

    GUN-BUILD MOTIVATION BUMP!

The government does NOT want you to build these guns!
Isn't that reason enough to build a half dozen of them?

It's warm enough to paint now!

Another video (two parts) on painting Rhodesian camo on an FAL.

    I AM inspired.
I'm not using the same kind of paint - you can buy the 2 "Rhodesian" colors in bottles and brush them on - I'm using Aervoe spray paint, BUT I may spray "puddles" onto a palate and brush it onto the rifle.
