    Default M&P Suggestion

    Hello All,
OK, so I finally decided to get an M&P. Have read many nice things about them. Now I am undecided of caliber & size.
    Already have a Glock 19 & a XD 45 service.
Should I get a 9mm or a 45 just because I have that ammo on hand? Or should I get a 40 because I don't have that caliber in anything?
Should I get the standard size or compact?
Not a carry gun. Probably a HD, range, or maybe an IDPA gun.
Currently I dont reload but looking into it for the future.

Thanks for any input you guys ( & girls) may have.
There's no such thing as a good gun. There's no such thing as a bad gun. A gun in the hands of a bad man is a very dangerous thing. A gun in the hands of a good person is no danger to anyone except the bad guys."

I tend to try to stick to a few good calibers if I can. If you really want a .40 then by all means get one. But I think since you already have 9 & .45 ammo you should pick whichever one you want your new gun. I picked up a new compact 9 today, and with the pinky mag it's nice in the hand, but for a range/HD/idpa gun i'd get the fullsize.

I think you picked a good gun. check out the dan burwell trigger job.

Is this just for fun or for a defensive weapon? For defensive, consistency is the way to go. Pick a caliber and focus on it.

If it is just for fun, get a new caliber so you can try something new, and benefit from the experience of trying something different.

    Good luck, either way.

I have the full size 4" barrel M&P 9, I use it mainly for IDPA, and I absolutely love it.

If you want something for IDPA or HD, I suggest you go with the full size 9, even the new pro series M&P with the 5" barrel would be very nice for IDPA. You won't be sorry with either one.

As far as caliber is concerned, I would go with what I have already. I like to keep all my pistols 9 & 45, because then you find yourself spending more money on all different ammo. IMO.

I owned 2 M&P's but once 3 people I know said they had rust on thires they were sold and replaced with glocks. One of them was kept in a safe and had less than 300 rounds in it, also it was only 6 months old. They are great guns the M&P's, but I am just letting you know what I have seen happen. I also own Taurus firearms as well as Bersa firearms, I am not just a glock guy. But if I could only have one gun yes it would be a glock!!
