Default Slide not staying open on last shot

Something changed recently in how I shot a ALL my pistols. The slide is not staying open on the last shot. I am shooting all my pistols well, but must be limp wristing it. I shot predominantly full size/power guns such as a 1911, Sig 226, Browning Hi-Power, etc. Also, I shoot w/ a two handed grip using a Weaver Stance.

Any suggestions what I need to start changing/working on?

Make sure your thumb is not riding the slide release. I doubt you are limp wristing it or you would be having jams before the last shot.

On all your guns you say ? Have a shooter who is very experienced observe you at the firing line if you cannot get someone do a video of yourself with each and every gun you said that the slide will not stay back.I am more inclined to think it is a shooter issue something your doing differentmaybe favoring an injured finger or hand that your really not aware of.Good Luck !

Are you still shooting the same guns?

I've been (purposely) experimenting with my grip lately, on the advice someone gave me I'm grabbing too tight. Definitely notice the slide not holding open on last shot if I relax grip too much, but not getting jams like I was limp-wristing.

If it every gun, I am guessing the problem is your doing. My guess is thumb touching the slide release (as Delkan also suggests). It happened to me when a coach helped me with my grip. I went back to my old grip.

This is a new problem to me. I have never heard of it being the shooters fault when the slide does not stay open on the last shot. I can understand having a grip that interferes with the slide release though.

The modern "thumbs forward" grip puts my left thumb directly on the slide release of my 1911, which (besides a bit of laziness) is the primary reason I have not spent the time and effort to break myself of the "thumb over thumb" I learned in the Army in the 1980s.

You don't even have to shoot to check. Grip the gun. Locate the slide release. Is your left thumb on the release? There's your problem.

ETA: This past summer I added a hat-cam to my IDPA gear to study my grip. I decided to try thumbs forward. My first mag change on my first stage became the first time my 1911 *ever* failed to lock back...

Low power reloads? Lube? Dirty? Let mags loaded too long? Dirty mags? Replaced springs? Lots of reasons, not enough information.

I'm gonna beg to differ. He said it's recent and it's ALL of his pistols. The chances of multiple (at least 4) firearms beginning to fail the same way *at the same time* for mechanical reasons are so low as to effectively be zero. The only common link here is the operator.

Springs fail from cycling, not from extended compression...
