    Post Bushmaster AR-15 barrel life

Hi folks, I just bought an AR-15 manufactured by Bushmaster. I'm very new to ar-15s and has never fired one. I've fired an AK-47 and I liked it. I reviewed on you-tube on how to field strip, cleaning and maintaining the AR-15 and it looks pretty easy. However I'm very curious what is the barrel life of an AR-15? I am aware it will wear out the barrel quickly if I rapid fire as common for semi-auto firearms. Nonetheless on normal firing, how many rounds will that take to wear out the AR-15 and what I mean by that pretty much enough to replace the barrel or buy a replacement?

Any comments or experience will be greatly appreciated...

    Arthur

No need to worry about the barrel life, it will last longer then you will unless your shooting 5 k rounds a year thru it.

IF your looking for a much better barrel try Green Mountain barrels, they have a good rep for lonegvity and are 4150 CMV steel.

Would have to know which model bushmaster AR you have, to give a somewhat accurate guesstimate. The kind of barrel plays a huge factor in round count.... I.e. stainless, chrome lined, chrome moly, nitrided, etc

I would say the minimum is around 15,000 rounds or so, before your groups start opening up or you start getting key holes..... You could more than double that number, depending on the material of the barrel.

Probably 15-20k unless your shooting full auto.

I'm not to sure about that. The ar15 bushmaster that was used at sand hook,
"supposedly" left no rifling on the bullets (per the police report). I'm sure adam wore that out by going to the range every day

Match stainless barrels will start seeing a decline in precision around 10k rounds.

    Un-lined steel, about the same.

Chrome lined will double those figures to about 20k but often start lower than the match steel.

CHF CL barrels...who knows, I doubt I'll ever find out.
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.

Match Grade AR barrels will start to open up on group size at around 5-7K. However, most "casual" competitors will hold off until 10K-15K. For the everyday Joe Plinker shooting a standard AR barrel, there is no number because they probably don't count rounds fired and don't put that many rounds down range and probably wouldn't even notice a degrade in accuracy.

True there is no number. I think you are referring to an estimate. Mine is made out of 4150 Chrome Moly Chrome-Lined so is that match grade?
