Re: New to Shooting Range, Questions about State Game Lands 203
Yelling "Clear" at the Wexford range is a toggle-switch command. If nobody is downrange, then it means "range hot". If anybody is shooting it means "cease fire". I don't write the rules there, but that is how they work.

Re: New to Shooting Range, Questions about State Game Lands 203
We were there today - all was good until most had left. then a few young guys with attitude came up set things down on the other side of us - while a few of us were packing up, we had our ears up talking, as we expected them to set up targets etc and at least say clear to make sure we were all aware they were going hot - nope crack crack crack crack no targets no warning. we had a few words......

Re: New to Shooting Range, Questions about State Game Lands 203
To use a state game land firing range one is supposed to have either a shooting range permit or a hunting/furtaking license.
Interesting.
The range permit costs $30 per year (fiscal year, not calendar year).
A general hunting permit, even if you don't hunt, only costs $20.90 per year.
And if you're age 65 or over it's only $13.90 per year, or you can get a lifetime license for $51.90.

Even though I don't hunt I took the on-line course (better than sitting for two whole days). Learned there was a lot I didn't know.
Comes the end of June I think I'll get either the Senior license or the Lifetime Senior license just to be able to use the local SGL range. It's cheaper than purchasing the range permit.

Re: New to Shooting Range, Questions about State Game Lands 203
I complained a year ago about their lack of safety signs. So whether it was my input or not I contacted the game commission local guy and asked if they were ever going to add a sign about no gun handling while anyone was down Range - I stopped there after my class and saw asshats again doing just that. I didn’t get close but did talk to one briefly about it. The game commissioner called me back and said there are new signs with that listed . Damn now I didn’t walk near the shooters but there was no sign that I saw that was obvious - so hebsaid he would pass that on as it is with other rules in small. I need to take a drive back tomorrow and look for the signs. I missed them except for the hours - I saw that one
