ranges that rent
I'm new to the forum but I feel like I'm going to spend a good bit of time here. I'm going to school at PSU and looking to purchase my first pistol. I have it narrowed down to the Springfield xd9 4" service model (seems to be the best bang for the $), the certified pre-owned Sig p226 (loved the gun when i shot my friends, doesn't come w/ the accessories that the xd does), or the Glock G17 (cheaper than the 226). Out of the 3 i've only shot the 226 so before i make a purchase id like to shoot the other 2. So now to my question: Is there a range near PSU that rents guns?

Re: ranges that rent
Not that I know of...
BUT, I am sure if you hang out around here enough, you may find someone that has what you are considering and they may let you shoot it at scotia...

All three are great guns.. but in my HO go with the Glock...but take that with a grain of salt as I am a huge Glock fan!!!!! The Glock will be the simplest and easiest to maintain, with the XD in a close second followed up by the Sig.

Re: ranges that rent
again i think shooting the guns is what will make my final decision however the xd is in first place right now. i love the fact that it comes w/ a holster, a 2 mag holder, the two mags and a case. For the price i don't think you can beat it.

Re: ranges that rent
I don't know of any ranges in the area that rent guns.
Don't get too excited about the fact that the XD comes with a holster. It's not really a carry holster, more of a range holster.

i'm not getting that excited, just pointing out that you get more for your money. also i wont be carrying a service weapon (the 4"), its a little large for that.

First off. Welcome. Secondly, at 330am I read this wrong, then laughed.
I carry a full-size 1911 regularly. haha. I love the XDs, but also have a G27 that I carry occcasionally. The xtra stuff you get with it isn't all that great, but it's something to start out with. I like the grip angle more than Glocks, and "feels" better, but thats me. Each person is different. I have no experience with Sigs... I'm lame."Unus ut caput capitis"

Re: ranges that rent
I guess I just assumed it was big to carry. I don't have any experience carrying nor do I plan on it. And no, I didn't shoot my friends

Re: ranges that rent
Call me old fashioned, but for your first gun you can't do any better than a 3" - 4" DA .357 mag revolver with adjustable sights.
You can shoot .38s at the range, you can feed it all manner of cheap ammo and handloads and it won't jam, the ammo available for them has a huge ballistic range to pick from, you can kill anything in the woods or on the streets in PA with it, it's carry size, you'll never run against a capacity limit wherever you go, you can't break it or wear it out, and a court will never be able to say "the first six shots were justified, but the next 9 weren't". Also, they're classy and never go out of style.
