Police said the suspects attempted to rob the store, demanding the employee hand over cash at gunpoint. The worker then drew his own gun and fired at the men, killing 17-year-old Gabriel Malachi Kalu, CBS 17 reported. The two other suspects fled the scene with the stolen money, police said.

WEST PHILADELPHIA - Two suspects in an armed carjacking are in the hospital after police say they attempted to take a vehicle from a Lyft who was armed with a gun he was licensed to carry on Monday afternoon in West Philadelphia. Officials said the shooting happened on the 4200 block of Parkside Avenue Monday, just before 2:45 in the afternoon.
A Lyft driver, with a passenger, was rear-ended twice, according to authorities. When the driver stopped and got out, two men got out of their vehicle with a gun and demanded the Lyft driver's vehicle.
The driver then got his passenger out and one of the two suspects took control of the vehicle.
Investigators said the Lyft driver was licensed to carry a firearm and proceeded to fire his weapon at the suspect who took his car and the accomplice in the other vehicle. He hit both suspects, according to official accounts.
One of the two men was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center by police and placed in critical condition. The other was also hospitalized, though his condition is unknown.
Police say the Lyft driver was not shot, and a rifle had been pointed at him during the encounter.

NEW ORLEANS - A Louisiana mom and Air Force veteran pulled a gun on a man who tried to get into her car while she was sitting in gridlocked traffic with her 2-year-old son.

"You shouldn't have to navigate your own city like a war zone. It's un-American," Charise Taylor, who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, told WDSU. "The crime is out of control and it's terrifying. At this point, having to use the same tactics in an American city that you use in Iraq and Afghanistan simply to navigate through the city, it's scary, and I'm not the only mom feeling this way."

Taylor said she was on her way to pick up her husband on Friday in New Orleans when she got stuck in traffic on Interstate 10. While navigating the backup, a group of people in a truck motioned to her to let them into her lane. She let them in, but soon after a man came up to her passenger door and began pulling on the handle.

Peaceful Valley, WA * The sheriff released more details about what led up to the shooting of two Whatcom County Sheriff*s Office (WCSO) deputies on Thursday and thanked the armed good Samaritans who came to the wounded heroes* aid and kept them safe until backup arrived.

    *
Police said that was when good Samaritans armed with their own weapons stepped forward and fired multiple shots in the direction of Young to provide cover for and protect the wounded deputies, the Bellingham Herald reported.

The good Samaritans told KING that they were military veterans and they weren*t going to sit still and watch law enforcement officers be murdered so they took their children inside their homes and came back out with their own guns.
