Armed Citizen Who Threw Wallet to Distracted Suspect: ‘That’s When I Lit Him Up’

An armed citizen, who was in Detroit’s E&S Carry Out Shrimp Shack during an alleged robbery, says he threw his wallet on the floor, and when the robbery suspect looked away to retrieve it, the citizen shot him.
The incident occurred around 5:45 p.m. on January 21.
I had a firearms instructor talk about that during a class. Keep a couple dollars with a heavy paper clip. Someone demands your money take it out and give it a little toss. The robber will distinctively look at it giving you time to take action. Interesting that it does actually work.

Good for him, and good that he's not (yet) facing charges.

I hope the 'lit him up' comment doesn't come back to haunt him. Sad that we live in a world where I have to worry that it could.

My instructor who was both retired LEO and amateur magician actually got more detailed. Said keep cash in a money-clip in your weak front pocket. As your weak hand starts for the cash, don't go right to the pocket: push your hand forward to engage the perp's eyes, then slowly move back toward the "money" pocket... the scumbag's eyes will follow both naturally AND to watch that you're not pulling on him (with that hand). Keep it slow and steady as you retrieve the money, while keeping up a patter of expected defensive/positive verbiage "hey man, no problem, I'm getting your money, here it is, no problem, stay cool, don't do anything, I'm giving you the money" etc. Slowly take out the money and hold it up for him to "verify" and then 'flick' the money away from you and to the floor (perferably beside/behind him) once you've retrieved it, his eyes should follow. Just ask any magician about "misdirection". Meanwhile VERY slowly your strong hand is already moving to the gun. You want to keep his eyes on the money hand, not draw them to motion by your other hand. Drop it to your side and move it along your body, not out in the air away from you. Once you have his eyes on the money, you can basically toss the money and bring aim on him simultaneously, if not even before.

This CC possibly stopped a mass shooting.

Gunman Shot, Killed Inside West Philly Barbershop

Police say a man likely saved the lives of several people when he shot and killed a gunman inside a West Philadelphia barbershop.
A 40-year-old man was inside Falah Barber Shop Inc. on the 600 block of Preston Street shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday when police say he began fighting with another person inside.

"They were arguing," said 16-year-old Yusaf Mack who was a customer inside the shop at the time. "They were taking it too far and one of the barbers said, 'chill out.'"
The fight quickly escalated and the 40-year-old man took out his gun and opened fire on customers and barbers, police said.
"I heard gunshots so I ducked and I ran," said Mack.

As he was shooting, another man outside heard the gunfire, ran into the shop and took out his own gun, according to investigators. He then opened fire, striking the 40-year-old man once in the chest.

"He just shot him and when he was done shooting he ran," Mack said.
The 40-year-old man was taken to Presbyterian Hospital where he later died from his injuries. Police have not yet revealed his identity.

Police said there were children inside the shop at the time but no one else was hurt.
The man who killed the gunman later surrendered to police at the 16th District Headquarters. Investigators say at this point it appears the shooting was in self-defense and the man likely will not face any charges. They continue to investigate however.

"The person who responded was a legal gun permit carrier," said Philadelphia Police Captain Frank Llewellyn. "He responded and I guess he saved a lot of people in there."

Massad Ayoob speaks about this in some of his older books and at this seminars. He states that typically they will go for the money and more often then not it will give you time to flee without having any type of physical confrontation. In the situation above there was clearly no place to retreat since they were inside a restaurant but the method still worked.

Check out the name of this newspaper that reported the story. And I love the state attorneys attitude. In Illinois to boot

One dead, one injured after robbers tangle with veteran

An attempted robbery ended with one person dead and the other in the hospital and charged with murder when they chose the wrong victim, according to Madison County officials.

The attempted robbery, which took place in Venice on Thursday, was thwarted by the intended victim: a 70-year-old veteran with a concealed weapon, according to Madison County State’s Attorney Tom Gibbons.

Venice Police were called to the 200 block of Abbott Street at 10 a.m. Thursday on reports of shots fired. Police found the body of Billy Dickerson, 19, of St. Louis, and a gravely injured Perry Richardson, 23.

Police believe that Dickerson and Richardson attempted to rob two people sitting in a car in front of a residence on Abbott Street. One of them was a 70-year-old St. Louis man, a Vietnam War veteran who was driving a female friend back home.

Gibbons said Richardson pulled a gun on them. The man, who was not identified by police, pulled his own gun and fired at the alleged robbers, striking both of them.

“My guess is that they were shocked that this gentleman was ready to take care of them, when they thought they were taking care of him,” he said. “Even though they had the jump on him, he was clearly better prepared than they were.”

Dickerson was struck in the head and was pronounced dead at the scene. Richardson was struck in the arm and chest and was taken to Saint Louis University Hospital for treatment.

Gibbons said that the man had a Missouri permit to carry a concealed firearm. He said there were multiple witnesses to the incident, and their stories were consistent.

“Self-defense is an inalienable right in a free society, and the right to keep and bear arms is enshrined in the Second Amendment,” Gibbons said. “He was just an armed citizen who was able to defend himself and his friend and stopped what we’re learning was a crime spree by these individuals.”

Gibbons said police believe that Dickerson and Richardson were responsible for another armed robbery just an hour before in Madison County and may have been responsible for more than 20 armed robberies in the last year. Both had extensive criminal records, he said.

“Not only did he save himself, his friend and protect everyone around them. He may have saved another individual’s life, if these people had continued to do this,” Gibbons said.

Upon his full recovery, Richardson will be taken to the Madison County Jail and held without bail. He has been charged with first-degree murder. Under Illinois law, when two or more people are committing a felony and someone dies, the survivors can be charged with murder even when they are not the ones pulling the trigger.

The maximum penalty for first-degree murder is 20 to 60 years in prison, and Richardson would be required to serve 100 percent of his sentence.

“If you come here to commit your crimes, do not be surprised if you end up on the wrong side of a concealed weapon of a law-abiding citizen,” Gibbons said. “We will not tolerate violent crime, and we will defend ourselves, our loved ones and our community from the harm you intend to bring.”

70-year-old owner of Houston barbecue joint kills attempted robber

The 70-year-owner of a Houston barbecue joint shot and killed a man who tried to rob him over the weekend.
Police said the man had just closed up J&S Bar-B-Que in northeast Houston on Saturday night and was walking to his car, KTRK-TV reports.
The man, whom police did not identify, was carrying a gun because he'd been robbed before, he told police. So when two men jumped out from behind a dumpster in an attempt to rob him, he shot at them.

One of the men was hit twice, in the throat and chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he died.

The second man ran off; authorities are still looking for him.
Police said the restaurant's owner probably won't face charges.

One of my favorites from the last couple of years because it was a clear case that the firearm made a big difference. This happened in 2013. People who say "why do you need high capacity magazines " need to see reality. You don't know how many people you might need to defend yourself against or how many bullets it might take to stop an attacker. There are plenty of stories of trained police who miss a lot of shots when defending themselves. This mother was in a nightmare situation. Chased to an attic with her twin 9 year old children, she hit her attacker with 6 shots before he left. She was out of ammo but bluffed the guy. If there had been more than one person, she had missed a few more shots, or he decided to keep coming despite the bluff, who knows what would have happened.

Georgia Mom Shoots Home Invader, Hiding With Her Children

A mother of two has been hailed a hero by her husband after she shot an intruder in their Loganville, Ga., home last Friday afternoon.

"She protected the kids. She did what she was supposed to do as a responsible, prepared gun owner," said her husband, Donnie Herman, in an interview with ABC's Atlanta affiliate WSB-TV.

According to Herman and the Walton County Sheriff's Office incident report, Melinda Herman was working at home when a man began to ring the doorbell. She called her husband at work, who told her to gather their 9-year-old twins, a boy and a girl, and go hide. All three of them went to an upstairs crawl space, and Melinda brought along a .38 caliber handgun to the hiding place.

Her husband, meanwhile, called the police. In the 911 recording, Herman can be heard saying, "She shot him. She's shooting him, she's shooting him. Shoot him again."

"I heard him pleading," her husband said to the 911 operator. "He was screaming."

The man allegedly broke into the house and rummaged around before making his way to the crawl space, where he found the mother and children hiding.

"The perpetrator opens that door, and of course at that time he's staring at her, her two children and a .38 revolver," said Walton County Sheriff Joe Chapman to WSB-TV.

Melinda Herman shot the intruder five times, hitting him in the face and neck. Chapman said she told the man if he moved she would shoot him again, although she had run out of bullets.

"The guy is [heard] telling her to quit shooting," said Chapman.

The intruder, who police identified as 32-year-old Paul Slater, managed to get to his car and as he tried to flee, crashed into a tree. Deputies later found him in a neighbor's yard.

Melinda Herman and her children, in the meantime, had sought refuge in a neighbor's home.

"Her life is saved and our kids lives are saved. And that's all I can say," said Donnie Herman.

Slater is currently in the Gwinnett Medical Center, receiving treatment for his injuries, which deputies described as serious. A family member told WSB-TV that Slater was on a ventilator and had endured puncture wounds to his lungs, liver and stomach.

Armed Citizen Intervenes, Shoots Suspect Allegedly Beating Woman in Convenience Store
    http://www.breitbart.com/big-governm...enience-store/

A citizen “legally carrying” a handgun demanded a suspect stop attacking a woman in a convenience store then shot the suspect twice when he refused the demands.
The incident occurred at the Columbia Avenue One Stop in Holland, Michigan, around 10:20 pm on February 9.

According to WUSA, “Officers were originally called out to deal with a subject who was acting disorderly.” But when they arrived, they learned the disorderly conduct had allegedly escalated into an all-out assault on a 39-year-old woman and that the 29-year-old suspect had been shot twice to end the attack.

Police indicated that a 43-year-old witness tried to stop the assault only to have the suspect turn and begin assaulting him. At that point, the 43-year-old opened fire, striking the suspect twice.

A press release from the Holland Police Department says:

The female victim and the suspect were involved in a domestic relationship. The suspect was reported to be initially intimidating the victim and other customers in the store. One of those customers left and called 911. The video shows the victim to be visibly afraid, and at one point tries to escape. The suspect violently punched the victim several times and threw her down to the ground, and it is at that point that the customer arrives and tries to intervene. The suspect immediately turned and violently attacked the customer. The customer indicated that the suspect tried to grab his gun, and he then shot the suspect twice. The female victim did indicate that she feared the suspect would beat her to death if the customer did not intervene. The female victim was transported to the hospital for injuries and was then released.

Holland Police said the suspect in the assault was already wanted for other charges. He is currently hospitalized in critical condition.
