In a lot of states the guy on the property with the knife would be the suspect and the guy who shot the knife wielder would be the victim......... but this is Hawaii we are talking about.

The suspect broke into two homes and was arrested after trying to enter a third, police say

A man suspected of breaking into two Carlsbad homes early Saturday was arrested after a third potential victim fired a warning gunshot into the air, police said.

The first burglary occurred about 12:30 a.m. on Paseo Frontera, in a neighborhood northwest of Alga Road and Melrose Drive. The suspect entered the house and touched the male resident while he slept, police said. The victim woke up to find the intruder in his bedroom, and the burglar fled.

Police got another report of a break-in at 1:12 a.m. on Unicornio Street. The residents awoke to find the suspect inside, and he fled when confronted.

At a third home on Xana Way, a resident saw the suspect trying to enter. The resident confronted the burglar through a window, causing the suspect to run away. The resident then stepped outside and fired a warning shot into the air, police said.

MISSOULA — A homeowner in the Bitterroot shot and killed a mountain lion after it returned to his property over the weekend.

The Ravalli County Sheriff's Office says it happened in the Avista Loop area of Hamilton after the lion had killed a goat and then returned to the carcass on Saturday morning.

USDA Wildlife Services removed the dead lion and it was reported that the death of the mountain lion was considered to be a justified kill.

There have been mountain lion sightings reported in recent weeks in and around Corvallis, Florence, Hamilton, and Stevensville.

Three lambs were killed in the incident that happened last month in the coal pit area in Corvallis.

A Montana Fish, Wildlife, and Parks spokeswoman told MTN News that they are not seeing an unusual spike in mountain lion sightings and incidents in the Bitterroot.

Veteran shot Port Arthur man who followed his family home after road rage incident, investigators say

The man told his daughter to pass a SUV that was swerving in and out of traffic. The driver of the vehicle allegedly followed the family home and approached them.

BEAUMONT, Texas — Police say a Port Arthur man was shot by a veteran after a road rage incident late Sunday night.

Witnesses told officers the homeowner, a 50-year-old disabled veteran, shot the 29-year-old just before 10 p.m.

Investigators were told the homeowner and his family were traveling home, with his daughter driving. As the vehicle approached a SUV on Highland, the man told his daughter to pass it, as its driver was swerving in and out of his lane of traffic.

The driver of the SUV then allegedly followed the family home and approached the family. The homeowner then told his family to put their heads down while he got a gun from his vehicle.

Police say the man said he feared for his family's safety and shot the Port Arthur man.

The 29-year-old was taken to St. Elizabeth for treatment.

Detectives are still investigating and gathering statements. Those riding in the car with the Port Arthur man also gave statements.

One of the passengers was a child.

Man Shot Twice During Incident At Lake Wales Residence

    STAFF WRITER , OCTOBER 8, 2019 / 1 0 COMMENTS
Polk County Sheriffs Office Press Release

A fight between two Lake Wales men on Monday, October 7, 2019 ended with one of the men being shot twice and sent to the hospital. He remains in critical condition.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded at about 6:08 P.M. Monday night, October 7, 2019, to a residence just off US Hwy 27 near Bok Academy.

During the fight, one man was shot with a Glock 9mm, once in the thigh, and once in the abdomen.

Both men were taken to local hospitals for treatment.

The names of the two men are not being released at this time, as the investigation is ongoing.

The man who was shot is in critical condition. The other man was treated for minor head injuries, and was released from the hospital.

Detectives spoke with several witnesses, with some saying that they saw the two men fighting on the ground.

One witness said the confrontation started when she came to her former residence with the man who was eventually shot. She was there to retrieve her remaining property from the home where the man who shot the other man lives.

According to the shooter, the other man had followed him into his residence before both men exited and a physical fight took place outside.

The shooter said he had been punched numerous times in the face, and was being held in a headlock which made him feel like he was about to pass out, so as a last resort, he shot the other man.

He said he then handed his gun over to a witness and remained on scene until deputies arrived.

Evidence at the scene corroborates statements from the witnesses and shooter.

The man who was shot has not been able to speak with detectives due to his condition.

Detectives are reviewing the shooting to determine if the facts support a “Stand Your Ground” self-defense case

Murder charges dismissed against Reynoldsburg teen Adrian Kramer
    Michaela Sumner
NEWARK - The state has dismissed murder charges against Reynoldsburg teen Adrian Kramer after they say two expert witnesses determined Kramer was acting in self-defense when he shot his step-father.

In May 2018, then 17-year-old Kramer was indicted on murder charges in the shooting death of his step-father, Aaron Cusick. Kramer's defense team and his mother, Crystal Cusick, argued the shooting was in self-defense, with Kramer defending himself, his mother and his younger brother.

More: 17-year-old indicted in stepfather's homicide

On Tuesday afternoon, the Licking County Prosecutor's Office filed a motion to dismiss the case in Licking County Common Pleas Court.

Assistant Licking County Prosecutor Paula Sawyers said the agency was waiting to receive a report from their expert witness, Dr. Bob Stinson, a Columbus-based psychologist. After receiving an emailed summary of the report from Stinson, Sawyers said they moved forward with their motion.

"He's getting us the full report...but essentially he agreed with the defense expert that Adrian was acting in self-defense, suffering from battered child syndrome and therefore, we are not able to prosecute the case," Sawyers told The Advocate.

According to a motion to dismiss which details a statement of facts in the case, between April 2-3, 2018, Kramer fatally shot Cusick outside their Reynoldsburg home during a domestic violence incident which was initiated by Aaron Cusick.

The incident began inside and was physical, the records noted, adding Kramer and his brother suffered injuries. As the altercation continued outside with Crystal and Aaron Cusick, records stated, Kramer's brother "grabbed a gun hidden in the house" and Kramer took that gun, following the couple outside.

According to the report, a neighbor who witnessed a portion of the event, reported Aaron and Crystal Cusick continued to verbally argue outside the home, but when the neighbor looked, the pair had separated. At that time, the neighbor reported Kramer approached Aaron Cusick, shooting and killing him.

Kramer, the record said, reported his step-father lunged at him before he fired the gun and "he had no choice but to do what he did."

According to the prosecutor's office, Stinson's report didn't differ from the defense's expert, Dr. James Eisenberg.

Stinson reported finding Kramer was exposed to "significant domestic abuse through the mother's multiple violent relationships, including the relationship with Aaron Cusick."

The psychologist also found Kramer was the victim of assaults by his mother's partners, including Aaron Cusick, and that Aaron Cusick was "especially violent when he had been drinking alcohol or using drugs," a belief Kramer, his mother, and brother shared.

On the night of the incident, Stinson said the trio viewed Aaron Cusick as under heavy influence of drugs or alcohol and "potentially lethally dangerous."

In Stinson's report, he said "given the circumstances, Adrian feared for his mother's safety and ultimately, her life. Adrian attempted non-lethal physical intervention prior to using lethal force."

Stinson detailed Kramer's earlier attempts to handle the situation by trying to physically restrain Aaron Cusick, then following his mother outside their home, where the argument continued.

"Based upon the evidence and the State's experts report, the defendant was justified in the use of deadly force due to a justified and substantiated fear for his own and his mother's and brother's safety from serious physical harm or even death," Sawyers concluded in her motion.

Kramer's defense attorney, Kristin Burkett, said they're pleased the state recognized Kramer had acted in self-defense during the incident.

"Two separate experts reviewed the history and cycle of abuse that Adrian was subjected to by Aaron Cusick and other former partners of his mother," Burkett wrote in an email to The Advocate. "Aaron was enraged and abusive immediately prior to being shot and it has always been our position that Adrian acted to protect himself, his mother and his brother from additional harm."

Burkett noted it's unfortunate Kramer spent nearly a year incarcerated before he was vindicated.

Fairfax County police said a McLean resident grabbed his gun and shot at the suspected thieves driving out of his garage in his car.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Sunday (Oct.6 ), two men entered a garage in the 1400 block of Woodhurst Blvd near Wolf Trap and stole a 2006 Audi A6, police said.
