Deputies: Rapid City man shoots intruder during scuffle

RAPID CITY — Emergency medical workers rushed a man to the hospital with a gunshot wound after authorities said he forced his way inside a Rapid City home and fought with the homeowner.

The 26-year-old went to the home in Clearwater Township to speak with his ex-girlfriend, a 25-year-old from South Boardman who lived with her current 23-year-old boyfriend, from Rapid City. He first went to the home April 13 and left after being told to leave, according to a Kalkaska County sheriff's department press release issued Monday. The man sent threatening text messages to the woman and her boyfriend, claiming he would return to fight the man.

He came back Sunday at 3:30 a.m. and knocked on the side of the "camper trailer," according to the release. The 23-year-old man answered the door with a rifle and demanded the late-night visitor leave. But the 26-year-old forced his way inside and fought with the man, trying to take the rifle. The homeowner wielded a "small-caliber" pistol at one point during the scuffle and shot the other man in the chest, according to the press release.

The 26-year-old man will be kept in Kalkaska County's jail once he recovers from the gunshot wound — he underwent surgery and continues recovering at Munson Medical Center, according to the release.

Deputies will look to county prosecutors to authorize criminal charges against the man stemming from the suspected home invasion.

The homeowner was interviewed after the shooting and released.

Michigan State Police troopers, Clearwater Township firefighters and Kalkaska EMS personnel assisted at the scene.

Eastern Oregon man justified in wolf shooting
By GEORGE PLAVEN Capital Press3 hrs ago
HALFWAY, Ore. — An Eastern Oregon cattle rancher was justified when he shot a wolf that was chasing his working dog March 12 in Baker County, according to authorities.

Lawrence Aguilar shot the wolf — a male juvenile from the Pine Creek pack — on the property in Halfway, east of Baker City. The Oregon Wolf Conservation and Management Plan allows for killing wolves caught in the act of biting, wounding, killing or chasing livestock or working dogs, so long as they are not intentionally lured with bait or other attractants.

Baker County District Attorney Matt Shirtcliff said Aguilar immediately called Oregon State Police and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife after he shot the wolf, and cooperated with the investigation.

"He did what you're supposed to do," Shirtcliff said. "This was in defense of property, and he did it right."

Aguilar did not immediately respond to a request for an interview.

Shirtcliff said the wolf was one of four chasing Aguilar's dog on the ranch, "very close to his home."

"He felt like that wolf was in the attack of his dog," Shirtcliff said. "The dog really was doing its job, so to speak, in terms of protecting livestock."

The Pine Creek pack has repeatedly preyed on livestock in the past. In 2018, ODFW shot three wolves from the pack after five confirmed attacks, killing four calves and injuring another six at two separate ranches roughly 5-6 miles apart.

ODFW removed gray wolves from the state endangered species list in 2015, though the animals remain federally protected in the western two-thirds of the state. Wolves can only be killed legally in cases of self-defense west of highways 395, 78 and 95.

As of 2018, Oregon has at least 137 known wolves and 16 packs, though most of the population remains concentrated in the northeast corner of the state.

Prosecutor: Teen who shot and killed dad will not face charges

    David Mann
Benjamin Rodriguez made his first appearance in Yakima County Superior Court on Thursday April 11.
An Outlook man who shot and killed his father will not face criminal charges because he acted in self-defense, Yakima County Prosecutor Joe Brusic said Monday.

Benjamin Rodriguez, 19, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder last Wednesday for the death of his father, Jose Rodriguez.

Benjamin shot his father in the face during a confrontation in which both men were armed at Jose’s parents’ home on the 200 block of Tomlinson Road, where they both lived. No one else was home at the time.

That day, Benjamin said his father was trying to get into a small safe that contained his grandparents’ medication but was unable to get it open, sending him into a fit of rage, court documents say.

In his rampage, Jose grabbed a rifle and began shooting it outside. Benjamin grabbed his own rifle and told his father to stop. Instead, his father aimed his rifle at him, so the teen shot him in the face, court documents say.

He and his grandparents later told investigators that Jose had a long history of drug use and abusive behavior toward everyone who lives at the home.

“Benjamin shot his father when he believed he was going to get shot,” Brusic said.

Brusic said in a statement that Jose’s history of drug use and volatility over the years played a major factor in his decision to drop charges.

“The subjective analysis of the facts presented to the suspect, under the conditions that existed at that time to him on April 10, would, in my humble opinion, defeat any criminal charge for murder or manslaughter at trial,” Brusic said.

Man Uses AK-47 Against 5 Home Invaders, Killing 3 And Injuring 2

    http://concealednation.org/2019/04/m...-OsaHbF4fSiQKY

HOUSTON, TEXAS — A man fought for his life against not one, not two, but five armed men who broke into his home. This gun owner was prepared for a fight, and utilized his AK-47 to defend his home and his life.
Two masked men went into the home where the 20-year-old resident was. At first, he though it was a joke, but quickly realized that these armed men meant business.

When they demanded cash, the resident complied. At least, that’s what he wanted them to believe. He said that he was going for what they wanted and reached under the couch.

Instead of pulling out money, he instead pulled out his AK-47 and began shooting at the suspects.

Three of the men were killed, and the other two were injured. Both injured suspects were taken to the hospital and then arrested.

Naked man caught on video ringing doorbell in Spring allegedly told homeowner's wife to take off her shirt

SPRING, Texas (KTRK) -- A family is on edge after they said a naked man appeared at their home in Spring.

And even more disturbing was that the homeowner said the guy allegedly told his wife to take off her shirt when he was lurking outside their bedroom.

Garrett Gradney told ABC13 that the incident happened on March 21 around 10 p.m.

"My wife and I started hearing noises right outside our bedroom door," Gradney said.

From a different room in the house, Gradney told his wife it was probably nothing, but he suddenly heard her scream.

"This guy actually stayed in the backyard as my alarms were going off and just kept ringing the doorbell," Gradney said.

Gradney said he went into protective mode and grabbed his gun.

By the time deputies arrived, the man was gone.

Gradney filed a report with the Precinct 4 Harris County constable's office.

Meanwhile, Gradney said he and his family have been having trouble sleeping since the incident occurred and that catching the guy would be the only thing that would bring them peace of mind.

Man arrested in Millard County after alleged threats with ax
    March 23, 2019

    Nathan Hare. Photo: Millard County
MILLARD COUNTY, Utah, March 23, 2019 (Gephardt Daily) — A man was booked into the Millard County Jail on Friday after sheriff’s officials responded to reports of an ax-wielding suspect threatening a resident.

Deputies responded to the area of 2655 S. Scenic Highway after a 911 call came in from a homeowner at about 4 a.m.

“A resident from the home called as he had been awakened by the man yelling outside,” a statement issued by the Millard County Sheriff’s Office says.

“Upon opening the door, the resident observed the man holding a long-handled ax and yelling for him, the resident, to come outside. The resident had armed himself, and the suspect left the area in a vehicle.”

A MCSO deputy encountered the suspect in a vehicle near the incident location, the statement says, “and recognized him as 32-year-old Nathan Hare, who was currently on parole. Hare fled and a pursuit was initiated.”

A probable cause statement filed by an officer of the sheriff’s office says that suspect Hare, who was on parole after a felony conviction, reached speeds of 95 to 98 mph during the chase.

Deputies were able to spike the suspect’s tires near State Route 100 and U.S. 50, and all four tires were punctured, the probable cause statement says.

The vehicle then ran a stop sign and ran into a fence.

“I observed Hare exit the vehicle holding the three-foot ax, and he fled south on foot into the tall sagebrush,” the probable cause statement says. “A search ensued with numerous deputies, Highway Patrol, AP&P and the DPS helicopter. Hare was finally located on a dirt road approximately three to four miles south of his vehicle.”

Hair was taken into custody at about 8:45 a.m.

“… and given the length of the ordeal and exposure to wet and cold conditions, was medically cleared at a nearby hospital. Hare was booked into the Millard County Jail on felony charges of aggravated assault and evading, as well as weapon related charges,” the probable cause statement says.

When Hare’s vehicle was searched, deputies found five knives, two hatchets and a can of pepper spray, the statement says.

Hare was booked on suspicion of:

    Aggravated assault, a third-degree felony
    Burglary, a third-degree felony
Nine counts of transaction of a dangerous weapon by a class 1 restricted person, a third-degree felony
Two counts of failure to stop at the command of law enforcement, a class A misdemeanor
Threat or use of a dangerous weapon in a fight, a class A misdemeanor
Reckless driving, a class B misdemeanor
Criminal trespass, a class B misdemeanor
    Unsafe lane travel, an infraction
Right of way — stop signs, an infraction
Hare’s bail was set at $64,100.

Home-invasion burglar sentenced to 15 years
    54 min ago
A Nelson County man convicted at trial for breaking into homes in eastern Hardin County last summer was sentenced to 15 years in prison Tuesday in Hardin Circuit Court.

Christopher Ira Little, 30, of Boston, must serve at least 10 years in prison before he is parole eligible.

Little was arrested Sept. 7 after he forced his way into a Hall Road residence. He was shot in the head by a homeowner, suffered minor injuries and was airlifted from Hall Road to University Hospital in Louisville.

He broke into two homes on Hall Road the day he was shot as well as a third Hall Road residence the night before, authorities said. He was indicted on three counts of second-degree burglary, Class C felonies punishable by five to 10 years in prison.

Little also was charged and convicted of being a first-degree persistent felony offender, pushing the felonies to a Class B felony level with a possible penalty of 10 to 20 years in prison.

According to an arrest citation, on Sept. 7, 2018, Little first went to a home where he attempted to enter through the front door. A woman at the home wouldn’t let him in. Little then went around to the back of the residence and forced open a small window, unlocked the door and entered the home, Kentucky State Police said.

The woman hid in a bedroom of her home with a firearm, according to the report. Little reportedly asked the woman, “Why did you call the police?” and then fled prior to KSP’s arrival, according to a citation.

Little was found across the road where a male homeowner shot him as he made his way into the residence. KSP was called by a woman at the second residence who said her husband had shot someone breaking into their home, according to police.

Little has been in the Hardin County Detention Center since Sept. 12, 2018, and was convicted in February.

Man shot in leg by homeowner during burglary indicted
    Erica Apodaca, BeaumontEnterprise.com
    11:04 am CDT, Wednesday, April 17, 2019
The man who allegedly attempted to break into a home and was shot in the leg was indicted Wednesday by a Jefferson County Grand Jury, according to information from the Districts Attorney's Office.

Cameron Elgin Casinger, 26 of Beaumont, was indicted on a charge of burglary of a habitation.

According to the Probable Cause Affidavit, on January 1 at about 2:30 a.m. officials responded to a call in the 600 block of Goodhue. The homeowner told officials that Casinger continuously banged on the door after the homeowner told him to leave. At one point Casinger is accused of ramming the door with his body and forcing his way into the home.

When he reportedly grabbed something that appeared to be a black object, the homeowner shot him in the leg, the document said.

He was found on the front porch with a gun shot wound to his thigh.

Casinger was taken to a local hospital where he was treated and released. He was later booked at the Jefferson County Jail.

Report: Burglar Shot By East Pasadena Homeowner
PASADENA (CBSLA) — An East Pasadena burglar was reportedly shot by a homeowner Wednesday afternoon.

CBS2’s Tom Wait spoke to one homeowner who said she saw the burglar leaving her home with property he had allegedly stolen.

The incident played out on the 3600 block of Grayburn Road around 3:30 p.m.

The homeowner didn’t want to give her name but said she saw him just outside her home after returning from a walk.

“He told me it was his home and his mother was inside,” she said, “but I said, ‘This is my house.’ So, I look up and see my door was broken. So I didn’t know what to do, but I started calling the police. He ran inside my place again and came out with two luggages.”

The suspect — described as an adult white male — reportedly ran down the street and broke into another home. That homeowner, a man, told the suspect he had a gun but said the man did not leave.

The homeowner shot the suspect in the torso. The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital where he is reportedly in stable condition.

Neither the first homeowner or man with the gun were hurt, Wait reported.
