Default What to do about rust?

I recently acquired a gun that has tiny rust spots on much of it's surface as well as on the spare magazine. The gun was kept in it's foam lined case so not sure how moisture got to it.What would be the best way to go about stopping and cleaning up the rust?

Years ago I used 000 steel wool, and discovered that steel wool, even 0000, WILL remove blueing if you press too hard.

It is best to get some BRONZE wool as the bronze is softer than steel AND blueing. Brownells has it, so did Amazon the last I ordered some.

For oil, I use Kroil. Use light pressure on the bronze wool.

The first thing I would do, and maybe the only thing depending on how much rust you are dealing with is spray the rust area with Gibbs brand lubricant and let the oil penetrate the rust. That may itself correct the problem. Here is a demo of the product. It is phenomenal. https://youtu.be/phAn6kVeQBY

Kroil and bronze wool (if you can find it). Seems druggies use the bronze wool for something and I couldn't find it in stock around here. Did an old Marlin 30-30 this way and it turned out beautifully,

And NEVER use anything with the words "rust remover" (like Naval Jelly) as they are generally phosphoric acid or EDTA based and will remove ALL blueing they touch.

Forgot about the Big Store. McMaster-Carr has almost everything.

I once picked up some stuff at the will call desk at the Aurora, OH McM-C facility and it is effing YUGE. There's a ginormous conveyor system running every which way, and vertical X-Y pick and place equipment on the side of each pallet rack / storage shelf. And there must be THOUSANDS of racks and shelves, like four stories tall.
