    Default 2 10mm questions

Firstly i just ordered 1000 new starline 10mm brass, do i need to size it before the first loading?
Secondly im trying to load to near underwood FPS, all the load data is coming up about 100 fps less then they are getting, are they going over max load or is there another trick. Ill be loading the nosler 150gr. Ive read they use 800x powder, but the max load for that is listed at 1400fps, underwood advertises 1500fps and my chrono backs that up? Any advise before i break some of theirs down and weigh the charge?

How would you know what powder they are using by sight? Not likely they are used red dot, ble dot or green dot. No you don't need to size new brass. They have powder options you don't.

Have you compared some of the factory loads with your hand loads using a chronograph?

I don't know your loading experience, but starting out with a max or max plus load is not a good idea. Start with a load that is not max, and work your way up to see where you are at. Check for pressure signs and closely inspect fired brass. Do I remember hearing that starline brass is good, but soft? Not sure on that one.

Let us know how it checks out as you go.

Do you wash plates and glasses after you buy them or do you assume they are clean?
Remember, they have been tossed into bins and tossed into boxes and weighed and poured into boxes.
So, how much trouble is it to size them to ensure they will chamber?
I always size cases before loading, virgin or used.

Why? If you want a magnum, there are better options.
You may have READ they use 800X, but they may also be using a non-cannister grade of 800X or some other entirely different powder that you can't buy. Then, a max load in a manual only means that it was a max load with the exact lot number of bullets, cases, primers, and powder they used, at the COL they used, using the gun they used. That load will almost certainly be over- or under-max in your gun with your components. You don't even know if the Underwood load is actually battering your gun and will cause problems over time.
For 155gn jacketed bullets and 800X, manual max loads range from 9.5gn (1296fps) to 9.8gn (1350 fps).
Now, if all you care about is velocity, you need a slower powder or, maybe 800X is too slow (2400 certainly is). The "best" powders, based on velocity in manuals, are AA9 (slower than 800X), AA7 (very close to 800X burn rate), and Blue Dot (slower than 800X).

It helps to know by what barrel Underwood achieved their stated FPS. And what barrel was used to record results for the reloading tables. Then consider how your barrel measures up.

Thanks, Im going to go with the aa9. I looked up the data on their site and it appears ill have no problem reaching 1500fps with way less then max load.
    Nos JHP 150 AA9 16.7 1443 Start 216
    Nos JHP 150 AA9 18.6 1640 Max 246
Think ill start with about 17.2
Ill be firing these out of all three sizes Glock 29, 20 and 40mos. Which im pretty sure will destroy the brass no matter how i load them, but buying the components and loading myself is still about half the price of buying from UA.

my reloading experience is limited to a few thousand 5.56 rounds, some .243, and four hundred or so .480 ruger.
These will be my first Auto pistol rounds.

Are you attempting to perform a torture test on your Glocks?

Just wondering why one would want to put max loading after max loading through their guns.
Many times max velocity will generate poor accuracy.
Or are you just loading 1000 self defense rounds?

Most people reload to create accurate target loads, not punish their firearms.
