I belong and have for a couple of years. Lots of ranges including the long one. I generally stay down on the 100 yard rifle and 25 yard pistol. I use the shotgun range when appropriate. They also have archery and 3-D archery ranges. Skeet, etc. as well. They hold quite a few organized events.

They don't require a "range master" to be present before shooting. It's self policing.

I've gone to West Caln Sportsmen's before but don't find it as full featured. Both are good clubs with lots of good folks.

I am also thinking of joining at Atglen. Do you know what is entailed to join? Do you have to be referred by a current member, or just join? Do you have to attend a meeting and be voted in, or attend any courses or anything?

I am currently a member at SLCFSA over in Quarryville, but would also like to join Atglen because of the 500yd range.

    Any info would be helpful.

    thanks,
    mike

    See:
    http://www.atglensportsmensclub.org/membership.htm

You were formerly required to attend one regular meeting, not sure if that's still required. See contact info on the above link for details.

I've been there over 7 years, the only drawbacks are no full auto & no 50 BMG guns.
Gloria: "65 percent of the people murdered in the last 10 years were killed by hand guns"
Archie Bunker: "would it make you feel better, little girl, if they was pushed outta windows?"

I joined 3 years ago and yes, new members are required to attend an orientation meeting (no big deal). I think most new members get in via referrals. Annual dues are $85 but the first year is higher. I concur with the others- it's a good club with a nice variety of activities. I've always felt safe when shooting there but I've heard some reports of "less then proper" gun handling from time to time which, unfortunately, is pretty common with an unsupervised range.

Hey cdarney- I'm your neighbor at #43. Didn't realize you were a member.

I too belong there. Its a very nice range. You are required to attend the orientation meeting if you are a new to be member. Its pretty straightforward, you sit through the minutes, then you get taken into another room and they Go over the rules, you then cut them a check and you're in.

Some slobs shot up the backer boards with shotguns a while back, other than that its pretty mellow there.

Contact Bob Butler. He is one of the ruling authorities in the club. You can get his info from their website. I'm sure he would be glad to allow you to come check the place out......
