Re: Hunting rifle purchase question...
Pics of the Model 70....
I cleaned it and wiped it down with a light coat of Rem Oil. Scope is a Simmons 3-9 x 40, not a Bushnell. No big deal to me. Might swap something different on later.
So, the 64,000 dollar question, what is it?
Thanks.

Re: Hunting rifle purchase question...
Someone will be along to correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like a true-blue, dyed-in-the-wool Winchester 70. I don't know about 'Classic' as far as a model designation goes, but either way you got a decent deal on a genuine Winchester. The scope is a step down, but if it holds zero it will do the job. Good luck this fall.

I think the founding fathers meant exactly what they wrote: the government should not make any laws restricting the RIGHT of the people to 'hold or retain in one's possession' and 'hold or carry' guns and other weapons that would allow them to keep their government in line.

Re: Hunting rifle purchase question...
It is a push feed model rather then the controlled round feed. When Winchester brought back the Mauser style extractor the pre -64 rifle's had, they were called classics.
It is not a bad price in today's market, but see if he will take a little less. To me the scope adds no value.

Re: Hunting rifle purchase question...
I went to the range today and shot this Model 70 a few more times. Overall I am very pleased with this rifle. Much more accurate than I had hoped.
Below are a few targets for your viewing pleasure. All shooting was done with a sand bag under the forearm and sitting at a bench. I had the 3-9x40 scope set at 6x. Was using Remington, Core-Lokt 150 gr, factory ammo.
Started out at 50 yards, took three shots. I forgot to take a pic of the 50 yard target...
<Pic place holder>
Then moved to 100 and tried my luck. Three shots.
Finally, still at 100, but put five down range. This target was a shocker to see. I shot five shots, but there are three holes. Two of the holes are pretty ragged. Must be dumb luck, I guess. I still don't know how the hell that happened?!!
