A normal SBR lower is legal to swap different caliber uppers on. You register it as one caliber and swap uppers at your will.

First, nice build.

Second, have you had any issues with the trigger and/or hammer pin(s) walking out on you? I did a 9mm AR building with a Quarter Circle 10 lower (Glock mags) and the pins would occasionally walk out on me. I ended up getting the KNS Anti Walk Pins from MidwayUSA. Just curious if you had the same issue or not.

I only have maybe 500-600 rounds through it so I don't know if/when one could expect such a thing, but no problems thus far.

I have the KNS pins on my pistol but that was because the PWS 4.5 lb drop in trigger came with them. I don't even really know what problem they prevent - I've never looked up what "pins walking" means - I assume they start coming out one side.

Correct. The pin will start to come out on either side of the lower and jam up your trigger or hammer. At least that's what it did in my case. They're more lightly to "walk" on a pistol caliber AR because they're a blow back operated AR vs gas system so it's harder hitting on the internals.

Depends on what you want.

Rock River Arms is one that seems to have a good reputation. CMMG too I believe.
RRA bolts typically run $175. Adco Firearms has RRA for $170. (That's where I got my bolt and buffer)

KAW Valley Precision bolts are $140 at AIM and Joebob Outfitters (both shipped free)

Either are good for Colt or Glock mags. Just be sure to get a "ramped" bolt - almost all 9mm bolts are now ramped.

JSE Surplus carries a lot of 9mm parts/uppers.

I can't comment on barrels. I had just started looking at them when one was offered for sale to me here and I bought that one.

Mag blocks... I'll poke around my bookmarks to see if I can find anything I may have saved.
It may be less expensive to buy a dedicated lower though so look around.

One other part that isn't required but recommended is a buffer spacer - Spikes is about $13 at AIM.

Yes, doesn't matter if it's a Form1 SBR by you or a Form 4 factory SBR. Once it's yours, do what you want. Only thing you need to work about is if you permanently change the caliber from the original registration. Ex: 556 to a dedicated 9mm by drilling and pinning the mag block in place, then you notify the ATF of the changes.

I'm really glad I built it.
Even more happy that it functioned flawlessly from the start.


Once I get a red dot I think it will be done.
I plan to get a decent optic for my 5.56 pistol next year and shift the Primary Arms micro red dot over to this 9mm.

For those thinking of building one, you don't need a forward assist on a 9mm. (it would serve no purpose)
If you don't care about a dust cover either, AIM has these Anderson Sport uppers for $39.95. You can also find uppers WITH a dust cover and no forward assist if you look around.

The Odin Works EMR2 extended mag release is great - I will be adding one to all of my rifles. For the first time ever I can actually reach the mag release without completely moving my grip hand. This is the 2nd version. I have the original version on another rifle - not sure yet which one I like better.





So far so good on the Strike Industries ARCH-EL charging handle. It's relatively close in size to the BCM Gunfighter Medium.

I was told that I should expect my brass to be thrown about 15 feet. I grabbed a tape measure out of my truck.


I was standing up by the third furthest post. ("downrange" is to the right in photo)

These aluminum case Federals only go about 5 feet though.





If you go the Colt pattern mag route, PSA has about the best price ($20 on sale) on the 32 rd mags. They are Metalform mags with a PSA marked base plate.
Great mags.
I have some 20 rd ASC mags with the orange plastic follower, but haven't yet tried them to see how they work. (Metalforms are flawless)
And as I already mentioned, get one of the LULA loaders!!!
