AR15 Forward Assist Plug ... Thoughts?
I hate the forward assist. I would like to be able to use an ambidextrous charging handle but it gets in the way. I was looking at putting my barrel and handguard on an upper that just has the brass deflector and no forward assist but decided against it. Too much time and money on tools and replacement parts, a useless upper I'd never be able to sell, etc. I found out that there is such a thing as a forward assist delete. It's basically a plug that goes in it's place. What are your thoughts? I'll install it, try it for a little while and see if it makes it an easier for me to charge from the ejection side and maybe (probably) go back to normal. I've been thinking about getting a raptor charging handle to replace my BCM but again, it may not be worth the cost for a small increase in function if the forward assist is in the way.

Ok, I am probably going to ask a stupid question, but why wouldn't all charging handles be considered ambidextrous ?
On edit: Looks like there is a release on both sides ? Never knew this.Last edited by jtwalker; November 22nd, 2016 at 08:07 PM.

I'm a southpaw and have no problem using the charging handle on my AR with a forward assist.

I have a raptor on my lefty AR and it does not get in the way of my forward assist. But my forward assist is on the left side.
That being said.... From 7 years in the military and I don't even know how many years of being a gun enthusiast, I can count the times I have used a forward assist on one hand

Guys, I think he's saying that the FORWARD ASSIST gets in the way of operating the charging handle.
I say this because it makes NO sense to think he means the opposite.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

I think if he used it the way it was designed instead of being uber tactical operator he would find nothing is in the way.

Yeah, I've used different charging handles and latches and none of them worked well for me on the ejection side charge. If I shoot from my right shoulder and charge from the left side, I wrap my pointer finger around the latch and pull it back. I can't do that with the ejection side because of the forward assist. I've hit my knuckles and drawn blood and cracked my pointer and middle finger nails.

Why not just get a left handed AR upper?

all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.
