Default Need advice on a potential trade! (XDs-45 for a DPMS Sportical)

Someone recently offered to trade their DPMS Sportical (.223/5.56 NATO) for my Springfield XDs-45. I rarely carry my XDs anymore (I favor my Ruger LCP for ccw), and I have wanted an AR-15 for a while. This particular model AR does not have a forward assist or a dust cover, but it comes with optics and otherwise seems to be a good rifle. I know i could always swap out the upper if I really wanted the FA/dust cover, but I want to know if this is a fair trade. My XDs has Tru-Glo TFO night sights and rubberized Talon grips. I am including a box of Hydra-Shok ammo, an extra mag, and 2 holsters (IWB/OWB). I'm not emotionally attached to my pistol (I have others), but I want to make sure I a not being had by someone who wants to get rid of a poorly informed purchase. Any input is appreciated!

It's probably a fair enough trade as far as money goes. That being said, it is a trade I would not do. Your XDs is a quality pistol and the DPMS isn't exactly known for its quality. These days you can pick up much better AR rifles on the cheap, such as the S&W Sport or the Ruger 556.

That's the conclusion I am coming to after a little bit of research. Thanks for your input!

Its your call but I wouldn't let the lack of forward assist or dust cover sway your decision.

Money-wise, you are both about coming even. Quality is another story. As mentioned above, the M&P is right in the same ball park ($550-575 locally) and proven to the probably the best bang (no crappy pun intended) for your buck.

If u really want a ar15 and don't care about the xds45 I would get it. It is a entry level ar15 if thats what u want. Could be a nice platform to build off of.

I ended up selling it for 500 cash. It seems I need money more than I need a crappy AR

I'm just going to wait until I can afford a proper AR. No sense buying something I'm going to get rid of in a year anyway.

My brother in law has an xds 45 and I hate it. There's no comparison, the AR is way more fun to shoot but maybe not that particular model. Keep an eye on Palmetto State Armory and the like and you can find AR rifle kits for $400-500. You just need to get a lower. Building your own rifle is tons of fun but you can also buy complete rifles for $600 or so. Black Friday ads will be out soon. You'll have plenty of choices.

Looks like you need to change your name now, huh? Me too. I sold all of my shotguns over the last year.

Are you going to change your user name to 500 cash?
