Remington 870 Police Magnum
I picked up a police trade in at a LGS. It's a Remington 870 Police Magnum.
Questions:
-Initial visual inspection, seems SAT.
What are some items to be checked prior to firing it?
-It has an AR type collapsible stock on it with a pistol grip
I'm not liking that too much, the pistol grip on a shotty? Anyone use these?TOA Feedback Thread: http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=276642

Re: Remington 870 Police Magnum
I love a pistol grip on a shotgun. It can be held under your right arm in a "high tuck" position for reloading with your left hand. If you would need to fire while reloading you could easily do so. Not a fan of the collapsible buttstock though. Curious as to what kind of sights are on it.

AR stocks are nice, in that you can adjust the LOP readily. If having only a pistol grip and no shoulder portion, a bird's head style grip is better IMO than the vertical style. I kept the bird's head grip I used on an old Maverick 88 when I sold the shotgun, will eventually pick up another one (or a Mossberg 500) and put it back to use.

Re: Remington 870 Police Magnum
I am guessing then that it is a fixed improved cylinder barrel? Good for slugs. You shouldn't have any problems. The 870P trigger group is STEEL as opposed to plastic. The biggest problem with the 870s is the pesky ejector. I suspect that some of them get broken by guys trying to "CLEAN" the inside of the receiver. If you break it, it is a shitty fix. Good luck with it. I love my 870s.

Re: Remington 870 Police Magnum
It's my understanding that the 870P's have steel ejectors as well, as opposed to the mim ejectors. I'm hoping this will mean no ejection/ejector issues for me.
