Glock Cleaning Question
I overheard a conversation at my local gun shop where the owner was telling prospective buyers of a new Glock 26 that one shouldn't clean the pistol for the first 500 rounds; something to do with the break-in period. I just got a new Glock 17 last month at Oaks. I have only 100 rounds through it so far. I'm kind of O.C.D. about my firearms and vehicles. Should I wait 400 more rounds? What do readers think?

Re: Glock Cleaning Question
Clean it. You will feel better. Plus its a Glock, you can do whatever you want to it.

Re: Glock Cleaning Question
The rails are coated with a mild abrasive-bearing grease that should be left on for initial break in. I personally clean everything else though.

Re: Glock Cleaning Question
The guy at my range told me not to clean a Glock until you run 1,000 rounds through it. He showed me the coating on the rails as an explanation why. I have 700 rounds through my new G19. Since I hate cleaning my guns, I had no problem with this information.

Re: Glock Cleaning Question
You can clean the pistol and leave the copper grease as applied by the factory. It will eventually wear away. As an FYI, it is merely Loctite C5A. You can even buy some if you felt the need.

I have Permatex anti-seize, will that do? It's not copper.

Hot water can and will penetrate the polymer and stay locked in. It's not good practice
