Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I have traded up. I went from an XD to a Glock to a 1911 (all .45s). That was over the course of about a year.

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I've traded up a couple time....sold up I guess would be more accurate. Getting rid of something from the safe for something more valuable, or more valuable to YOU.

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I've traded in both directions to get something I want. In some cases I bought a gun I could afford, carried and shot it for a while, and then sold it for something that was more expensive, perhaps a little nicer, that I could not have purchased the first time. In other cases I took a gun that was very valuable, although not to me anymore, and traded it for something substantially less expensive, but that I use more.
I will say that I do look more at potential resale value more than I used to. There was a time when I would buy a gun thinking I would never want to trade it, only to be in the shop later on looking at something else. Now I think about that more. Having a gun I like is more important than whether or not I lose some money on the deal, but I am not crazy.

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I have in the past. Finiancial needs. Now days I try to keep anything I buy, unless I feel it is a problem piece.
Plus when I lived in PRNJ and needed a seperate Permit to Purchase a Handgun for every handgun you just don't get rid of them after going through that. Only go rid of one handgun in 27 years in NJ.
It is how I have built up a good part of my collection.

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
Over the past 30 years I've traded up 3 times, I went from girlfriend to wife, divorced and traded up to wife 2, divorced and traded up to wife 3, which I'm currently on. I would not suggest this route as it is very expensive. Go for the show piece right away.

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I haven't traded yet...the majority all have sentimental value since they were passed onto me from my father. First gun I bought was a Glock...I want to hang onto it because it was the first and everyone needs a Glock!...second was the P-99.
It's hard because you don't get much in return for a trade-in. It's like a car.

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I still own my first two guns, one for 38 years the other for 28. I had to sell off a few for financial reasons but have decided I'll never sell again unless I get something I just don't like. Sure wish I had that Colt Trooper 8" nickle, it was just beautiful.

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I have done so twice. Once on a Stevens sxs, and once traded a used 7 1/2" Redhawk for a new 5 1/2" Redhawk- even trade.
I vote the second first

Re: QOtD: Who trades up?
I haven't yet. I almost did, but ended up buying a full size when I went looking for another sub-compact, so I kept the sub I had. Although, I'm starting to get the itch to get a different sub, so if I do, I'll be trading the one I have now. I know I won't get much for it, but I bought it used and didn't pay much for it, so I'm not really worried about resale/trade price.
