Default First time building an AR lower.....

Well ladies and gentlemen, thanks to many of your posts here, I finally took the plunge and built my first lower.

I tried to keep with premium parts for this build by using a Daniel Defense Furniture kit and LPK, a BCM buffer tube assembly all wrapped up and in an Anderson lower receiver.

I'm having some issues with Photobucket tonight, but I will post a few pics tomorrow.

How difficult a process was it, if I may ask?

It's extremely easy. There are only two roll pins to install (the mag catch and trigger guard). Everything else is simple push pins or threaded holes. The only thing that may be tricky are those pesky takedown detents. Keep an eye on those things, they'll go flying and you'll never see them again. Ask me how I know.

Really, most people have no issue with building a lower with basic tools they've got at home.

The only big problem I had was getting the spring and detent for the buffer tube retainer in place. I ended up using a 1/16" roll pin punch and holding the spring compressed while I screwed the spacer in enough to keep it from partially popping out.

My biggest struggle was the trigger guard pin, everything else was smooth.

Yup, AR lowers are pretty easy and straight forward. I got a stripped AR lower as my first "gun" right when Obama was inaugurated. If you go on YouTube or ar15.com, they're is a ton of info on how to build them.

It's really not hard. It's tedious the first time, but for me that was mostly because I was afraid I'd screw up.
There are good vids on youtube. The one about how to build a lower without special tools was what I used.

I did it on my kitchen table.

The good thing is that the only specialized tool needed is a castle nut wrench, which is a cheap $10 investment

To solve this problem use a 1/4 in. x 2 in. Clevis Pin.

^^^ I used a razor knife with great success to hold the detent in. Easy peasy. Didn't have to go out and buy a pin.
Not that it isn't likely the most simple way to do it - I just didn't want to go buy a pin when I had a razor knife sitting in the drawer.
