    Default Paper Shotgun Shells?

I just came across a box of old shotgun shells and they are in almost brand new shape. The box even looks great. I was just wondering if it would be a Good or Bad idea to use these. There is a box of 12GA 2.75" 7.5shot and there are 9 12GA 2.75" rifled slugs. Let me know what you guys think of using these shells.

I have to agree with Stoop.... dont use them... for a couple of reasons... first of all paper shells havent been used for years.. and the paper retains moisture. This could cause the casing to swell too much when fired and cause problems ejecting the casing... secondly they probably are worth more being sold to a collector than the price of new shells.......

Either way its better to sell them and buy new.... GOOD LUCK

I went to the car to get more clay pigeons one time and my buddy was rapid firing away. When I got back there were a pile of paper shells at hs feet he was "using up"

I couldn't believe it. He shot half an ammo can of the things.

Are you sure they are "old" shells? If I'm not mistaken, Federal and perhaps one or two other manufacturers still make a line of paper hull shells, that are marketed for competition.

Paper shells should be shootable if they have been kept dry. Paper that has been stored with excessive moisture will swell to where they will not chamber. If they chamber they should be safe.

I just finished my reloading room, will post some pics when the equipment is set up, when I was sorting I came across some paper hulls that was shot about 15 - 20 years ago. Almost completely forgot about them and it made me laugh after reading this post this morning. If I remember correctly the hulls are about 40 years old now. Timing is everything!
