groundhogs
personally, what kind of guns do you use for groundhog hunting? And how many did you get so far this year?
I use a savage .17 hmr sited for 150 yards to make it interesting. I shot 4 so far this year.

A mutt and a Lab, we are at 3 this year so far out of my yard :P
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: groundhogs
220 Swift and 25-06 for open fields; .223 for walking thru orchards.
We shoot off a truck in the fields, and have two locations with 500+ yard shots possible (25-06). My hunting buddy has a .22 Mag he likes (although I don't understand why), so he gets all the shots less than 150 yards. I get the 150 - 350-ish yard shots with the Swift, we take turns on the 350+ shots.
We both have other suitable rifles (e.g., 22-250s) but seem to have settled on those mentioned as personal preference. We're at 107 for the year; he is 3 ahead, since we ran into a group of dumb hogs at 120 yards this week.

Re: groundhogs
I'll post back after Saturday...me and a buddy are going to some virgin g'hog grounds for a little target action. Land owner (co-worker) invited us over because he just made last cut on the hay fields and counted over 80 sightings in one afternoon! I feel like a hired g'hog hitman! LOL! He said there can be some 200-300 yard shots! Weapons of choice...7mm Mag's! The carnage is expected to be brutal...
