Default Pittsburgh -- Where to eat?

So we're going to the big McCain rally Saturday in Washington, and since we're from State College and haven't lived in PA long, we're going to leave early in the morning and hit Pittsburgh first. The idea is to eat a nice lunch someplace, then head down to Washington.

Suggestions? Good is good. Ethnic is better.

Some place in Washington. You don't want to go to Pittsburgh.

One place that pops into my mind is Primanti Bros in the strip district...mainly because they are a true Burgh restaurant with a lot of history.

Pitt football on Saturday @ Heinz Field 12 noon.

STAY-AWAY From Downtown, Parkway East, West, North & South

But if you must, Primanti Brothers in the strip district of Pittsburgh.

or The Grand Concourse/Gandy Dancer Saloon at Station Square.

But if you are looking to get out of Pittsburgh towards Washington, Parkway West (I279-South/West) will be a parking lot due to construction at I-79.

You will want to Find another route out of town. (west Liberty Ave. is one way)

Try Church Brew Works which is just outside of Pittsburgh. It was a church and now it is soooo much more.

If you like Thai food, try Thai Cusine out on 4627 Liberty. It's a bit pricey IMO but we eat there a few time every year, and are always happy with the food and service.

Well, nice is nice and then there is Pittsburgh. You can really go really nice, or eat like a pig. I would highly suggest that you try Fat Heads on Carson Street in the South Side. The sandwiches are unique, and the wings are fantastic. May I suggest the Artery Clogger sandwich and the Carribean Crusher wings. Many beers on tap....over thirty.

If you're going to the rally, WITHOUT A DOUBT, you want to head west on 40 (Chestnut Street) about 2 miles from the Wildthings Stadium/Washington Crown Center to a restaurant called Roland's Trattoria. It looks like a dump. The Italian cuisine is the best I've had since I left Philly.
