Rethinking self defense strategy
Good evening, all. I've had a hellish year. I'm home recovering from 2 brain surgeries
done last Sept. Recovery is painfully slow. I've focused on recovery but now it's
time to start retraining and gun safety. I use a walker to walk and sit in a wheelchair.
I'm looking for suggestions on how to CC in the wheelchair. I'm several months out from
carrying again. I need to exercise so my hands can safely operate the gun. Thanks in
advance for your input.

Re: Rethinking self defense strategy
Best wishes on a successful recovery.
I'd think about hitting a range and trying to draw and shoot from the chair. Your options on caliber and carry are going to be determined by what you're able to do in any particular month. Sounds like you're facing some of the same problems faced by someone drawing a gun while seated in a car; perhaps a shoulder rig or a cross-draw holster on your weak side hip, anything except a strong-side hip holster or a small-of-the-back holster. Whatever works for you.Attorney Phil Kline, AKA gunlawyer001@gmail.com

Here's to a recovery that lets you do as much as possible!
My first thoughts were something small and worn "necklace style", or a fanny pack.
Apparently I wasn't too far off with the fanny pack idea. I Googled "fanny pack wheelchair" and this article came up.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Rethinking self defense strategy
For starters, I wish you a miraculous recovery.
Were I in your position, I would seriously consider CCing a small .38 spl. revolver. They are not the most accurate or most comfortable to shoot but with compromised hand strength, it is a fairly simple to operate package. My second choice would probably be a full size semi-auto, so that you have good capacity before having to struggle with a reload.
As for carry, a fanny pack or waist pack would be a reasonable option that leaves your hands free to either use the cane or wheel youself, while somewhat securing your weapon and valuables.
I recommend going to a range that rents pistols and trying out several different platforms and finding what works best for you. Best wishes.

This may be helpful. great show. Watch until end, they show mistakes and then good tactics for someone who cannot stand or walk well. I've been there before too, good luck on your recovery.
