What's this latest fascination with "mud testing" on Youtube?
Yawl might have seen this lately on Youtube and the popular gun channels on there, "mud testing". No one is content enough anymore just to shoot guns on camera, now they are rolling them in mud and sand and then trying to shoot them as a test of "reliability". This seems to be the latest youtube fad. Military Arms Channel is doing this all the time, InRange TV/Forgotten Weapons is, TFB TV has done it some and probably some others I can't remember at this moment.
As an example:
I'm a bit confused as to what all this is about. 99.9999% of the people out there watching are not SEALs rising out of the swamp to engage the Viet Cong. Obviously if you sit there and cover any gun in mud or pack it with dirt, it's probably not going to fire.
I'm curious to know if any one here in a civilian environment has ever been in a situation where this "mud testing" would matter to them or have any practical application?

Not only do I mud test all my firearms on a bi-weekly basis, I also concrete test them. I submerge myself in several feet of concrete and then slowly rise out while engaging Red Army targets.
I hear Ungawa regularly Jello tests his.Rules are written in the stone,

I make sure to fire test all my guns while falling out of a plane backwards and screaming like in an action movie.

To answer the OP's question no.
It's fun to watch but has no real world bearing on anything what so ever. MAC channel did this on the M&P 9 which did really poor compared to everything else that he has done up until this point. What happened if he does a HI Point C9 and it does better by just 10 or 15%? Does that now automatically make the HI point better then any M&P pistol for carry or HD?
MAC does tell everyone that these tests are for fun and that people should not take it to the point they start ditching or not trusting proven pistols and designs, but like everything else firearms related the Internet "operators" get their panties in knots with this crap in the comments making mountains out of mole hills with completely ignorant claims and statements. Making up riddiciolus non realistic examples of pretend senerios they will never find themselves in like havig to wrestle an attacker off after an avalanche during a monsoon while a luner eclipse is taking place.Last edited by Hodgie; September 25th, 2016 at 03:47 PM.

I like to buy a gun and put it in my pocket for a year or two and then see if it shoots.
