Therefore, weapons of any kind, pepper spray, pocketknives, lighters, flashlights, alcoholic beverages, and any other potentially dangerous objects are not permitted inside the penitentiary.
We have a strict "no guns" policy, which means that even persons licensed to carry a firearm, including off-duty law enforcement officers, will not be permitted to bring their weapon into the penitentiary complex (and we can't hold them for you, either).


We were there a few years ago. Very interesting place. I did not know about their policy. I didn't ask and I didn't tell.

Yea, I saw that on the site, but it doesn't tell me if they do pat downs/wand/metal detectors.

The last time I was there, I didn't see their policy and there were no pat downs or wanding. This was 2 years ago for a normal tour (not the Halloween event).

At the end of the tour, enjoy the guide's liberal views on how incarceration is bad.

I don't remember that part. Were they talking about incarceration in general or the Quaker Style isolation method?

My tour guide talked about how incarceration at eastern state was horrible, but also discussed how today it is still bad and how more rehabilitation will work. Our tour guide was a college aged hipster.
