Re: New member
There's nothing in the law that says your references have to live in the area you are applying for your LTCF. In fact they don't even have to live in state. If the sheriff is telling you otherwise, that's a problem with the sheriff over stepping his authority.

Recently submitted my sixth renewal and used an out of county reference ! Its been three weeks today and not recieved the renewal as of yet so they are #1 Behind in issueing ? #2 They got bent out of shape because of my out of county reference ? I would submit what you have as any reference and play their waiting game ! And keep us posted ! Good Luck

I wonder if there's some other navy vet that lives in county that could help you out.

Re: New member
Looking at the Monroe sheriff's website, he has a lot of BS on there about applying for a LTCF:
If disabled, written documentation from your doctor or social security explaining the nature of your disability.
Copy of your DD-214 if you were in the military.
Photocopy of Local 1% Earned Income Tax or other tax paper if retired/disabled.
Also a questionnaire is apparently sent to your Monroe Co. only references.
WTF???

Re: New member
The only mention at all of references for a LTCF is on the application, not in any statute. Here's a scan of that actual part of the application:
