Golden Tiger .223 Warning
I got a case of Golden Tiger .223 last month. I loaded up two 30rd mags worth and hit the range. Out of 60rds, 24 rds did not fire, didn't fire with a second strike either. Half were shot in one AR, half were shot in another one of my ARs. Both ARs have milspec triggers and milspec springs. Both rifles run Tula steel cased, wolf steel cased and all brass cased ammo 100%.
I tried to contact Golden Tiger via e-mail (twice) and via their site (once) none of them went through. So I contacted SGammo, whom I bought it from. Apparently they use 5.45x39 primers in the .223 ammo and they are really hard. SG said I need an extended firing pin and XP hammer spring to run it reliably.(which was news to me) Luckily SG is refunding me on the ammo once they receive the rest of the GT .223 back.(they are sending a label for the return shipping)
Looks like real nice ammo, I just wish it would run in my rifles. Thought others may want to know.

Same thing happened to me. I'm gonna keep it for my bolt action where it works fine. I bought 2K rounds. Lol. The Brown Bear runs flawlessly.

Where can I get an extended firing pin at?

Re: Golden Tiger .223 Warning
I think the ones in the link are it. The ARs chambered in 7.62x39 have this problem with most steel cased ammo.

The one from Black Rifle Arms had this disclaimer on their pin so I didn't include that in the links.
"Disclaimer: Tula Ammunition and Golden Tiger have issues where some primers are set too far in and will still cause light strikes even with an Enhanced Firing Pin.
For this reason, we highly suggest sticking to steel cause ammunition such as Wolff or Silver Bear."

Re: Golden Tiger .223 Warning
Awesome thanks. All I have to do is put that firing pin in?

Re: Golden Tiger .223 Warning
The guy from SGammo said the enhanced firing pin and extra power hammer spring makes them run 100%. Problem with the extra hammer spring is it will probably increase trigger pull weight some.

Re: Golden Tiger .223 Warning
Somewhat old news. SG Ammo was issuing refunds for this ammo. I'd contact them if you want a refund. I think they paid return shipping also.

Re: Golden Tiger .223 Warning
I bet an AK in .223 would welcome the GT. My AKS in x39 eat it up.

Re: Golden Tiger .223 Warning
I just did a search and found the thread on AR15. I'm not a member over there so I did not know of the problems.
Here is the thread. https://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_16/6...ck.html&page=1Last edited by dkf; August 25th, 2016 at 08:24 PM.
