    Default Wolf Ammo in AR

I just purchased an AR-15 and shot it for the first time. I purchased 20 rounds of the Wolf poly coated steel cased ammo just to test it out (to see if I would want to purchase more in the future). Anyway when I shot the Wolf ammo I noticed that it sounded a lot different than the brass stuff. Is this just the difference between steel and brass? Does anyone else have experience with this? The stuff shot fine but sounded strange to me.

If it shoots and cycles OK, then don't worry about it. I know of many AR people that shoot it with no issues, only a hand full had cycling problems, including me.

Only time I have had an issue with it is after 50 rounds or so i get an occasional short short stroke. Never noticed a different sound though.

I switch between WWB and Wolf in mine. The only thing I noticed is that the Wolf is dirty! But I clean after each shoot anyways, so no big deal to me...

Ive run about 500 rounds of wolf thru my RRA M4 and no problems with short stroking or have I noticed any difference in sound compared to Federal AE brand ammo.

Only thing is that you will need to do a bit more cleaning, but thats not a down side to me.

    Good Luck and happy shooting

Wolf shoots very reliably out of mine but I highly suggest to stay away from the cheaper "Brown Bear" stuff. I run into about 1-2 duds with each magazine and twice I have had cases get stuck. I won't buy that stuff anymore.

At 100yds, the 55gr Wolf doesn't produces very tight groups and if you shoot a 20oz soda bottle full of water, it doesn't even fragment all the time. It's just cheap plinking ammo.

I also shoot Wolf with no probs with my M&P. My Dad's Bushmaster and others had problems with short-stroking Wolf. I replaced the recoil spring with a lighter one in my Dad's and another guy at the range polished his feed ramp to solve his problem.

The only thing I would recommend not using is the Brown Bear ammo or any other lacquer coated stuff. When shooting rapidfire, the lacquer can melt causing a stuck shell in the chamber. I've seen it happen.

No problem with wolf in my AR - pretty accurate too. (2 moa first time really aiming at anything this past week)

I like the american eagle 5.56 stuff better, but it costs 3x as much.
Wolf and WWB (still more expensive than wolf) work pretty well too, but seeing as my guin has never jammed (knock on wood) I don't have any bad issues to judge it against.

i shoot wolf exclusively in my BM. only issue i have is short stoking occasanily on the first two rounds of a mag. other than that it's just fine.
considering the cost differences, i find it worth the trouble.
the gun has less than 500rds through it, so i imagine this issue will work it's self out.
