I need a new rod and reel
Alright it's time for me to get a new fishing rod & reel I would like to get open bail reel and a 2pc 6'6"-7' rod. I would like to be around $100-$140 for both.
I fish for bass, panfish, walleye, trout and do 98% of my fishing from a boat.
I know a little bit about this stuff and am learning more and more every day.
So with that info what do you anglers recommend?
thanks a bunch,

Re: I need a new rod and reel
I wouldn't call myself an angler by any means. But I have a little medium action ugly-stick that's my go-to rod for just about everything. I don't know much about reels but have had a few ugly sticks and can't seem to break them.
BTW I've been to the trading post a few times and haven't seen him open. I'll pick up your gunpowder as soon as he's open. I'm probably going to buy a tomahawk, do you want me to get you one too?

Re: I need a new rod and reel
For saltwater I've always gone with a Penn combo. For fresh water I've always gone with a Quantum Combo
I've never been disappointed. They have handled everything I've thrown at them and more. I fish for pretty much the same things as you with the occasion pickerel, perch etc...
I've used my 6' Quantum combo in the Delaware Bay using clam to hook into 18"-25" striper with no problems at all. I also use it to fish the bays of NJ as well
You can get a nice combo at Dick's for around $100 or less, I usually buy mine after the main seasons are over because they usually mark them down a bit.

One of these Barbie rods might be worth a try.

When I was in Quebec, I gave up regular fishing for Fly fishing...
I should get back into it, it was fun and relaxing too..

Re: I need a new rod and reel
For what you need here is what I would recommend.
For rod Fenwick or St croix example:http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...374&hasJS=true
For reel:http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/te...333&hasJS=true
Any shimano is good. Lots of good reels out Penn is made in the USA.
Cabelas brand rod and reels are also good I believe they are made by Diawa. Best thing to do is go try some out....

Re: I need a new rod and reel
for 90% of the fishermen out there a combo from Cabelas or Bass Pro will work fine and run you less then 100 bucks. I have a Mitchell combo from them which is a great set and was less then 75 bucks, use it for trout mostly as its light action but they had medium and medium-heavy as well for less then 100
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Ugly Stick rod and a Penn reel, That's my 1st choice. 2nd choice would be Ugly Stick rod and Okuma reel.
