    Default M&P 45compact ?

Was thinking buying my first 40 for carry and a S&M mp 45c caught my eye, however research tells me not so great trigger. And then I read it's been improved on newer production models. Any current purchasers and opinions? Thanks

Trigger not the best but not the worst. Get an apex trigger for it . It makes a huge difference.

Make sure you squeeze the trigger of that M&P before you make the buy.
That will tell you if your going to need to replace the trigger and related parts (some need it, some don't).
I did the Apex upgrade (posted in gunsmithing section), it's great but adds ~$150 to the cost just for the parts, more if you need someone to do it for you.
If I had to do it all over again, maybe I would have just spent the money up front on a more pricey gun.
I used to carry an XD-45, I changed to the M&P-40 to lower my daily carry weight and bulk, and to add a few more rounds in the magazine.
The M&P is a good reliable gun, as good as any in the price range, and it shoots smooth and easy.
Though I may have been just as happy or happier with a Glock23 Gen4 40 cal.

It's ok, the glock 30s is better. I wanted to like the M&P more but that isn't the case. It is better than the 30 for carrying but glock holds more and the mags are cheaper. Go 30s. Add a ghost connector with a stop if you want the cat's nut.

I carry a M&P 45c, picked up a used one with the Apex upgrade already done. I picked the M&P 45c since it fits my hand the best out of the compact pistols. I was less concerned about the trigger pull since its a defensive pistol and not a target gun. The Apex upgrade was just a bonus for me. After shooting it and shooting a stock one, I suggest anyone with an M&P get the Apex parts, well worth the money and the trigger is so much better with it.

I prefer a full size grip.
If you are looking for a short compact grip, then the suggestions of the other posters are more relevant than mine.
