Got two "new" old guns from the county sheriff.
This story may sound unbelievable but it's true. Back in 1996 my parents were going through a divorce and my father had a PFA against him. He had to turn over his guns. He had two. One was an old bolt action 16 gauge the other was a Stevens 22. He got arrested and convicted of a prohibiting crime shortly after so he couldn't get those guns back. They were passed down to him by my grandfather. Fast forward 20 years and my father is in the county jail again when the sheriffs dept gets a hold of him to tell him they still have his guns. They told him they could transfer them to someone who isn't prohibited. He told me I could have them. I called the sheriffs dept and they told me they could run the background check on me before I went to the department in the courthouse. I just gave them my name and birthdate over the phone. They called back the day after to tell me I was clear I just had to bring ID. I went there and got those guns back. They were in the same condition I remember them being in 20 years ago. They are treasured family heirlooms that I thought were gone for good. I am surprised they held unto them for so long and surprised getting them back was so easy. Interesting right? The guns are in good hands now. I am going to refinish the stock on the 16 gauge. Anybody have anything like this happen to them?

Good outcome for the guns...no way that would happen in this town.

Good for you! Be glad you live in Wayne county, don't think it would have happened in most of the rest of the state.

the funny thing is that I had been considering buying a bolt action 16 ga for nostalgia. I never thought I'd see that old gun again.

Tis cool that you got the guns. I've never heard of that happening to anyone.

Would think a time frame that would consider them forfitted and the sheriff could sell them at action. Glad they held them all this time and you were able to get them back.
