NJ smart gun sales bill vote postponed
TRENTON - Lawmakers delayed voting on legislation to increase the sales of so-called smart guns, which can only be fired by authorized users.
A Democrat-led Assembly panel was set to consider the measure, which Republican Gov. Chris Christie pocket vetoed last session, on Thursday but postponed a vote.
The bill requires firearms dealers to keep an inventory of one or more types of personalized handguns on premises.

Re: NJ smart gun sales bill vote postponed
Yeah, and if this panel does not approve it they will violate their own rules and bring it to one that will. The Dems did that when they ramrodded their "Sandy Hook" legislation through the Assembly two years ago. Christie vetoed most of it back then, but they will force this one through by whatever device works for them. NJ is like California. Republicans are gerrymandered into a permanent legislative minority. NJ only gets a Republican Governor when a Democrat Governor screws up horribly and nearly bankrupts the State. After a Republican Governor cleans up the mess, a Democrat is voted right back in. Anyhow, expect full one-party Democrat rule soon and NJ will infringe the Second Amendment in ways that will make Cuomo, Malloy, O'Malley and Brown look moderate. It is already one of the most anti-Constitution states in the Union.

Re: NJ smart gun sales bill vote postponed
The rest of the article (highlighting mine):
The bill’s authors say the measure addresses a problem with a 2002 law requiring only smart guns to be sold in the state within three years of their availability.
That requirement, legislators say, delayed the marketing of smart guns because opponents of the law pressured retailers not to sell the weapons.
No more gun stores, no more "gun crime", right?
Didn't the 9th circuit just rule that being able to buy guns is part of "keep and bear"?

Re: NJ smart gun sales bill vote postponed
As much as 2nd amendment supporters dislike Chris Christie for his past support of gun control and even though he said he changed his mind on the gun issue, he still lacks any interest for pushing pro-gun legislation in the NJ legislature , once he leaves the governor’s office, NJ gun owners are screwed ( more than they are now).

Re: NJ smart gun sales bill vote postponed
The bill repeals the 2002 law mandating personalized handgun sales only (NJSA 2C:58-2.5). In lieu of the repealed law it instead mandates that personalized handguns be prominently displayed in the shops and having at least one in inventory while allowing the continuing sales of non-personalized handguns.
IANAL

Re: NJ smart gun sales bill vote postponed
The Dems are backed into a corner. They passed the first smart gun law as a feel good thing but later realized how stupid it was. They know it could never take effect. Now they have to backtrack. They are just doing this to pretend they are doing something................

Re: NJ smart gun sales bill vote postponed
Greetings,
Let's see "smart gun" Beta testing start with Christie and all the other "high value targets" body guards and the NJSP. Same for the Feds and other states pushing for it. That should at least give some data points on the reliability of these new electronic systems. Nothing smarter than taking a simple device and making it complicated............
Regards, Jim
