    Default russian 308 winchester

anybody know specifically what powder is used in the russian 308s?
i pulled 4 rds down from my stash. they were all in the same ammo can and i don't recall all the names, but it was brown bear, silver bear, wolf and one other.
all use ruffly the same charge weight and the same type of ball powder.
    wondering what that powder is.
it's only metal, we can out think it....

I am curious as well.... but I doubt anyone will ever know.

Even here in the USA, we are hard pressed to know what powders are used in factory ammo..

Find and befriend a Russian living here who has relatives in Russia, some of whom work at the ammo plant. Have that person find out and report back. Hopefully, he or she will not disappear after asking.

Factory tours at Barnaul are available.

Barnaul is one of the best places to go for hot Russian women.

They appear to be the "same". They look the same. Doesn't make them the same.

Unless you test a sample in a "bomb" and watch for pressure-time curve you don't know about this propellant.

Bet that the propellant in those rounds is also used in Russian military ammunition. Which makes their identity a military secret.

It's prob something " similar" to H335 / 748 , I've pulled and used a lot of 54r light ball powder and was all very similar in loading to 4895 . Russia really only loads ammo for military and export sales so one would assume they don't have near the variety of powders made for use as other gun / reloading friendly countries

Most likely some special blend that that is made primarily for the ammo company. It seems to me that al lot of the cheap steel cased ammo favors faster ball powders. Which makes since because ball powders meter very well and you usually need less of a faster powder for each cartridge.
