INSTRUCTOR: MARK BOOHER, JD, CPS, is the Senior Instructor for Rubicon Training Group, an intelligence and security training company serving the military, law enforcement, and the private sector.
Mark is a veteran of the United States Army where he spent 5 years in the intelligence and security field specializing in force protection. He is also a Certified Executive Protection Specialist and has traveled to Israel to study counter-terrorism, security, shooting methods there.
Following his military service, Mark studied law at the University of Arkansas and spent 6 years as a deputy prosecuting attorney. During his time, he prosecuted hundreds of cases involving shootings, batteries, and other violent crimes. His experience has given him a unique insight and perspective into the way violence actually occurs on the street and what it takes to survive a deadly encounters.

FAQs
Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event?
You need to be 18 or older to participate in our events.
Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?
You do not need to bring you ticket to the event. We will have a roster of all attendees taken from the registration site.
What is the refund policy?
Full refund for cancellations received 10 business days prior to the event. We do not offer refunds due to inclement weather, floods, earthquakes and other Acts of God that may prevent us from cancelling an event, but you will receive full credit to use for one of our subsequent events.
What kind of gun should I use?
Any semiautatic hand gun will work. Pistols with magazines that carry at least a 10 round capacity is optimal and recommended, but not required.

As a first timer to the class, I had a great time!
I was teamed with Mr. Martin and his 4 sons (i pity the fool that tries to break in the door at the Martin residence - the lads were shooting like they were born switched on) and the best part was they made me an honorary member of Team Martin.
My legs were jello as i did the warm up and heart rate bump bit with a little too much gusto before the room clearing drill and almost tripped but pulled of a flapping penguin waddle and stayed on my feet. I had 10 rounds of ammo left to burn and i wanted to make the most of it. Mike was screaming in my ear the whole time, and when i got to the first entry way, my heart rate was up and thumping. 3 shots to the chest, 2 to the head (balloons and rounds per target be damned) on each of those.
There were only 2 parts that i struggled with. One was the stick your off hand out and ward off evil while shooting with one hand drill. In fact, at one point, my left hand was balled up and up against my face (like i was fending off a haymaker). The other drill was the 2 balloon drill where you took a long distance shot to pop the balloon in the chest and run up and shoot the second balloon - IN . THA . FACE!. I loaded a single mag with 10 rounds and needed 8 to finish the dill - not my finest shooting, no one cared, but me - oh the shame....
Any hew, my favorite drill was "Shoot the brown targets". This is where white targets and brown targets are arranged in a random fashion and the drill is to put 3 in the "Brown ones" and leave the white ones be. Being the ONLY brown person in the entire class of 30, i had to give Mark a lot of grief about that LOL!!
One member, just to make me feel at ease, shot the daylights out of all the white targets - my honor was restored.
All in all, the entire course flew by so quick, i was surprised (and a little exhausted) at the end of the day. I am ready for level 2. I had a conversation with Mark on upping the round count as well. This class (Israeli Fighting Pistol - 1) used up a 100 rounds. I would say the class was focused more on technique and the intricacies of the individual drills than torching off rounds at hapless pieces of cardboard.

Safety was paramount throughout the course and was reinforced constantly.

To sum it up,, the crew at Rubicon Training Group is top notch! There is also going to be a level 2 and I can't wait for their carbine class as well.

My wife and I had a great time as well, we signed up for the class in August. Between the two of us we used 194 rounds, so this class won't destroy your ammo budget. Staff was excellent and I'm truly looking forward to round two.

Thanks tailhound, I'll be sure to let her know. I watched her do a textbook reload while running a drill and I was pretty proud of her. She wants to do a carbine class now and I think we are doing an Appleseed. Not sure who has carbine classes that are good and fairly close to us.

Dude, she handled the reload drill itself with a lot more dexterity than i did. I was taking notes to go back home and talk to my wife and tell her that she could have come out here and done this. Talking to my wife at home after the class made me realize that she is not all that into guns and shooting. She practices at an indoor range once every 3 months or so and that is that.

Honestly, I was also getting a little confused with the black and gold malfunction drills. I kept forgetting that it is an abstract drill as in pretend you have a malfunction. My brain keeps jedi mind fucking me - "keep firing, there are no malfunctions here" is all it keeps telling me...

Appleseed? Like the manga/comic book series? Please tell me more.

Also, i spoke with Mark and he told me that the carbine course was definitely on the docket. It is actually a scheduling thing with the club. Apparently the place where we shot at has no new dates open for carbine yet - maybe next year. This year is just for the level 1 and depending on attendance, level 2 fighting pistol.

Appleseed is highlighted in a sticky at the top of the training and tactics page. They teach you how to shoot more accurately using a sling like the did in WW2.

I completely overlooked it. It did come up when i did a forum search on it. Looks like a .22 is what they want you to bring, having dropped moolah i dont have on ammo, i would have to reconsider this.

Think that they'll teach cover and concealment? You know, like crouching behind the door instead of exposing your upper body like that guy in the photo? It looks bad assed but it's not practical. Targets don't shoot back, but bad guys do.

We only did a minimal amount of cover/concealment, that may be covered more in the level two class. My wife and I were happy enough with level one we signed up for it again. I saw several students that were taking it for the second time while we were there.
