Help reunite a special gun with the owner
This is in Texas, but folks from all over read these boards and it may help.
Readers Digest version: Texas Sheriff finds a 1911 in property room with grips featuring a photo of a young woman, wants to try and return the gun to rightful owner.
The original story is here:

Some excellent pics are on the military.com forums here:

That's got to be a piece with some sentimental value to the original owner.
On a side note, this sheriff (aside from being a good egg for wanting to find the owner) is exactly what I picture a Texas county sheriff to look like--RedKnightt--

Why not reported stolen?

Re: Help reunite a special gun with the owner
The person who owned it originally may not know it was stolen, especially if it was put away somewhere and stolen by a relative or "friend" who could do so without staging a break-in. The person who put the grips on it most likely kept it as a war souvenir, and may not have wanted to report his (clearly marked US Govt Property) pistol stolen, thinking they might be in trouble for keeping it. There's other reasons, I'm sure, but those are just a couple off of the top of my head.

very possible family members thing another member got it... very nice piece, I've never come across anything like that before
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

I certainly hope a fine piece like that makes it back to its rightful owner. Thats a really fine looking weapon.
