    Default M&P question

Just got a new to me M&P .40, that appears not to have the sear deactivation lever. Anyone know if some of these are built not using one, or did the guy that had it before me possibly remove it?

Got a pic you can post?

It's been a while since I snooped around in there...but I find that REALLY hard to believe.

They might have removed the magazine safety...and gone too far.

Post a pic if you can and CC S&W....

The PDFs on their website appear to suggest that all .40 models have the sear disconnect.
Question might be, when did they start adding it to their models? was it there from the beginning?

It is a really nice looking gun, good choice.

The OP stated that this part is ABSENT from his gun. The sear disconnect was there from the start (in terms of production...not prototype, which I know nothing about)...it allows the gun to be taken apart W/O pulling the trigger.
This is (AFAIK) the only striker fired design which can do this....the SR9 might qualify here, but I don't know enough of the details on that action type. Pretty sure it works on the same principle though.

The Springfield Armory XDm also does not require the trigger to be pulled during take down. Cool feature.

That is odd that someone would disable it and not inform the next buyer.

I think disconnect lever is hard to see if lever is dirty.
When sear is connected, its tucked under the ejector..

I have an M&P9, and mine also has the disconnector.

I could be wrong, but it was my understanding is that ALL M&Ps are supposed to have a sear deactivation lever, as it's considered a safety feature to be able to remove the slide without pulling the trigger when stripping the gun. If your gun doesn't have this lever, it may mean the gun has been modified in a way that could make it unsafe. It might be a good idea to either call S&W support, or have the gun inspected by a smith familiar with the M&P, to make sure the gun is safe to fire.

Agreed, that's why I wanna see a pic, and see if it's there (cause it's kinda easy to miss) or if someone modified it, I'm curious how they screwed it up.
