    The Viper just isn't as bright as the Monarch in my experience.

    Based on my Nikon v. Vortex comparisons today I would say that is most likely the case. I loved the Nikon. I also tried a 4-12 that had the "Active Target" reticle. I absolutely loved that reticle, and hope they come out with something a little higher power with the same reticle. I am tempted to just pick one of the 4x12's, it was VERY nice glass for $300.
