Default Cowitness - Absolute? Lower Third?

I want to do absolute because my rifle is perfectly zeroed at 50 yards and I could just put it on and shoot. Also, I like to get my cheek low and I think absolute would be more comfortable for me. Any reason for me to consider the lower third? Who's tried both? Any strong feelings toward one or the other? My wife is taking a more active role in AR customization as she grows more fond of the rifle and has no opinion.

Personal choice. The lower third to keeps the scope/red dot reticle separated from the irons. Absolute makes it easier to set up the scope/red dot if the irons are already dead on. Plus absolute doesn't require a cheek weld change when switching.

FYI, I run absolute with the rear sight folded down, fixed front sight post. I adjusted the red dot to "sit" on top of my front post. I can always change my cheek weld slightly to move the dot up and away from the front sight post.

I like lower third because of the bigger field of view. The biggest advantage of a red dot is quick acquisition and I don't want my front sight post cluttering that up. Also my cheek weld is perfect with it (for me).

I want my irons to be an after thought. Let's face it, with even a decent quality optic, they're not going to fail under civilian use load.

Also, you could get mostly zeroed on a red dot in either configuration without shooting and just looking through your irons.

I searched the door-kicker operator type sites a few years ago and they all used lower third. Civvy use would tend to personal preference.

    Lower 1/3 if you're using a fixed rear, absolute if you're using a flip-up.

Be sure to use a QD mount.

Lower third all day. Better field of view and a more clear sight picture. I mistakenly bought a absolute mount with my last pRimary arms red dot and it drives me nuts....

I am using flip up front and rear sights, so I am planning to get an absolute mount when I get around to ordering a red dot. I figure the cheek weld will be the same that way.

If the optic becomes occluded, you need to be able to remove it quickly in order to use the irons.

I'd argue that using irons by looking through the clear optic glass won't be a big issue for a short period of time.
