New York State 10/22
Hey All,
My daughter is moving to New York State (Rochester area) - SHE GOT A JOB YEAH ! and would like to take her Ruger 10/22 with her, it currently has a folding stock with pistol grip (I bought it 20 years ago and have since given it to her) - Does she need to put the original stock back on to make it legal in NY ? Does anybody know? I know you guys aren't lawyers (except gunlawyer) but didn't know if anybody knew outright... I can always convert it back to original specs, but was curious...
Thanks in advance, and I realize this is the internet and all advise is just that...

The best advice I can give is, read the NY safe act. very carefully! make sure it is from an official NY state site.
I did a check but read for yourself. NO Folding or telescoping stock.

Re: New York State 10/22
here this should help figure out if you can or cannot have it...
http://programs.governor.ny.gov/nysa...-questionnaire
it does say to let you know if you need to register it, but registration time is over so if it falls under "assault weapon" than it is just out right banned
and i can tell you right now, if it has a folding stock or pistol grip then no she cannot have it in NY. Also let her know about http://www.thefiringpinny.com/ sweet indoor range with a great group of people.
but back to the main question.. In New York if the rifle is semi auto and takes detachable magazines then it cannot have any other scary feature ie, pistol grip, folding/telescopic barrel, muzzle brake or flash hider or even a threaded barrel, also cannot have any for grip (the angled ones i think are ok but no vertical foregrips).
***edit*** if it is put back in the original stock then it will be completely fine, also not sure if she is of age yet in PA to carry but if she plans on carrying here in New York, she is going to be in one of the counties that is a bit more difficult, http://www2.monroecounty.gov/clerk-pistolpermits.phpLast edited by sgreen10; March 7th, 2016 at 06:11 AM.

You need to put the original stock back on. Does it have a threaded muzzle? If so, then it would be an assault weapon in NY. She can't have any mags that hold more than 10 rounds. Unless at the range, mags can not be loaded with more than 7 rounds. Crazy!
When I went to college in Rochester this was THE club to shoot at: http://rochesterbrooks.org/In America arms are free merchandise such that anyone who has the capital may make their houses into armories and their gardens into parks of artillery. - Ira Allen, 1796

Re: New York State 10/22
Forget it. As is it is an 'assault weapon' and is contraband in New York. I wouldn't be caught dead moving outside the United States.

The first part is ture, but I thought I heard the second part was thrown out. It's still listed on the safe act website though.
