Russian style 75 round AK mags SUCK!

Man what a pain (literally I might add)

I bought one of those round, 75 round Russian type AK mags and got it the other day. I wasn't planning on using it and may still not but I grabbed it because I'm pretty sure after Jan 2009 you wont be able to get them any more.

So anyway, I decided last night to try and load the damn thing.

First off I now KNOW why they call them thumb busters ... my thumb STILL hurts today

Secondly I can only seem to get 55 rounds in it .. the tension on the loader tab is so damn tight now its next to impossible to get it far enough to accept another round.

So am I a wuss or are they all like this? I think the next one I buy will be a Chinese style.

i fully loaded mine once and since it was so easy i decided that i didnt need to do it again ......... it now collects dust haha


after a while i was able to get into some type of rhythm and it got a little better but your right , they suck to load !

if i can remember correctly you have to really push on that lever an get it back at least 2.5 inches and let the rounds drop then add a few more and repeat process

I never put more than 20 rds at a time in my drum. Can't afford it! Also, unless you have full auto, pulling the trigger 75 times would get old.

I wasn't going to fire it unless I take it out for a wild bump fire ride, after that it will go back in the closet for future reference

you gotta learn to bumpfire i learned over the weekend. 800 .223 in about two and a half hours, poor mans machine gun. now that doesnt get old

Oh I know how to do that .... ran through 4 30 rounds mags in the AK a few weeks ago ... nothing like 30 rounds in 4 seconds (yeah I know its still not full auto but for us poor slobs its as close as we will ever get)

Aren't the Chinese ones like $250 instead of $140 tho? I wanted a drum, but they are just so expensive. I can get a case of ammo, and a couple 40 rounders for the cost of a Chinese drum. A little spendy for me so I've just put it out of my mind for the time being. What did it run you?

$250 for a chinese 100 round drum? I'd better dig the couple I have out of the closet and put them up for sale.

They are very easy to load, but 100 rounds tends to weigh the gun down a bit.
